Manchester council £150m on World Cup bid

instead of paying 150 m to the council i'd rather pay 150 m to Barcelona for Messi :)

Erm, why did London only cough up 60k?
Because it was probably assumed that every football fan, critic, journo, and executive already knows what London has to offer. It has had 3 clubs in the CL this year alone and is home to the most famous football stadium in the world. Plus it'll be more concerned about the Olympics at the minute.

Likewise with Manchester to a certain extent, in footballing terms, there's the rags and us, neither of us are ever out of the headlines, both grounds have hosted important events and Manchester is the second city. Liverpool is a similar case, one of the most successful European clubs in Liverpool and a well known, smaller but well supported club in Everton.

Birmingham is a well known city but it's not exactly the pedigree of footballing prestige especially when it comes to world class stadiums. Smaller cities as far as football goes spent more.
