But one final point, in answer to several posters - City were made aware of this article yesterday, as I called to check if there were any particular concerns about empty seats, or any possible explanations.
I explained what had gone on, and they were unconcerned about the article, and no-one at the club has come back to me, or to the MEN, with any form of complaint.
Well then someone in the press office needs a good kicking for letting this go. Because I would certainly object to a story that has no factual basis and potentially damages the club and its plans to grow.

People need to remember that the problem doesn't lie with Stuart Brennan. As I've said he can't come on here and hang his colleague out to dry. He obviously doesn't agree with the awful journalism and has made a counter argument.

As stated this morning, lip service to be paid, the author of the article to become the patsy and the title in question now trying to distance itself.

I have no problem any publication writing good or bad, as long as it informs.

Stuart is wrong to state the paper is within its rights on this one?

The story has nothing to hang itself on rather than a couple of stills and the convenience of City extending the ground.

It's tenuous in the extreme and a serious cheap shot.

There's nothing that can right it, if anything, the nationals will legitimately rip it off for their own amusement.

Do we ban all talk , all links , all reference so on and so forth.

or

do we file it away with our used fish and chip paper in time immemorial fashion.
I think this would be better:

"Now. let me make this perfectly clear. No one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle. Even if they do say 'empty seats'"...

Oh dear!

It's made it into today's MUEN Newspaper.

Read it again in black and white. F***ing disgrace.

They, the people who run the MUEN, aren't listening and don't give a shit!( Sorry, but it's true Stuart)

Nice spelling of "Etihad" as well by the way.

Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.

I am aiming to quit this thread after this post, as we are acting on concerns - all will become evident in due course.
But one final point, in answer to several posters - City were made aware of this article yesterday, as I called to check if there were any particular concerns about empty seats, or any possible explanations.

So talk of us being booted out by City, or punished in some other way are fantasy, I'm afraid.
I do understand the upset from some fans, but think a sense of perspective is needed here.

So that makes it OK then?

What about the fans Stuart? It isn't always about the club. I'm sure the club may not give you that reply next time, after they've seen the reaction and backladh from the fans.

BTW.

Do me a favour. Send this on to Lynch, Spencer, and the car crash team at the MUEN.

Ask them to do an article about 30,000+ empty seats at OT this season. And tell Lynch to draw a big f*** off circle around those empty seats

You'd think when printing this piece of drivel they'd look out for spelling mistakes.

Maybe they were all stuck on the m62 like me. I managed to arrive just as Chelsea scored. Not the best of nights.god help us if we have 60000 capacity as it can be a right pain in arse getting there now

Little wonder they give this poor excuse for a newspaper away in the city centre during the week, it won't be long before it becomes another statistic along a long line of newspapers which have bit the dusk, shame really because back in the Peter Gardner days when the MEN journos had something about them it was a half decent read but I for one will not miss the amateurish attempt at journalism.

I understand some of the upset here, but the suggestions that this is one-sided and that we never do stuff like this about United should take note of these:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/revealed-manchester-uniteds-old-trafford-2592078" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... rd-2592078</a>

and

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/police-figures-reveal-five-times-3003108" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... es-3003108</a>

David Lynch's piece was ill-advised, flawed and badly-timed in my opinion, but it was not part of some wider agenda.
Those two articles are actual news. Spot the difference between the GMP releasing attendance figures for a parade and David Lynch and his red circles on MS Paint. To not run a story when GMP released those figures would be tantamount to hiding them, especially when national newspapers were talking about it as well. It would be pretty hard for a local paper not to talk about a local issue that's in the nationals. What justification do you have for David Lynch, especially his puerile red circling of every single empty seat?
