Manchester Schools (The EU)

Thanks Ancient Citizen. I'm lost since I accidentally deleted the Daily Mail app on my iPhone lol!

We agree that the OP is raising valid points. I am also not a fan of open door immigration policies that are there to serve rich business owners.

Where we disagree is about what actions / solutions are needed. Based on the information shares by the OP, it is clear that the Council aren't helping much and they could do more as I pointed out in my previous post.

What is unclear is what percentage of school kids are refugees and how many have arrived as EU citizens. Leaving the EU won't do anything regarding refugees or immigration from outsidenthe EU. It was as easy to get into the UK as the OP said there wouldn't be people risking their lives to get here from Calais!

On a wider point, our public service often have to pick up the tab because big industry wants cheaper labour. I know from my previous job (and time spent on Whitehall) that this impact isn't properly reflected in funding allocations. For example, I understand the percentage of GDP being spent on the Heakth Service has fallen back from 9 percent to less than 7 percent.
Don't bother putting the app back on, you'll only get called a racist twat if anyone sees it ;-)
Your point about refugees is a big part of the content of the OP's post, in that many of his intake have arrived from all over the world into Europe,
been given residency status, and thereby given free rein over where they can go within Europe, and then decided to deposit themselves in the UK,
which, as EU citizens they are free to do.
Out of the EU, we can stop this, many on here argue that we can't, but I can not conceive that the fundamental plank of the leave campaigns'
message will be completely ignored if Brexit ensued. I agree wholly with your point about big industry, and funding allocation.

I think another factor is our British attitude to the EU of either implementing every dotted I and crossed t or trying to block everything.

I remember a couple of years ago the French deported a camp of gypsies very quickly. The Courts didn't have time to bat an eyelid!

Did you or the OP vote for either of the last two Governments who'se military / bombing campaigns have contributed to immigration problems. I confess I did!
I’ve voted Labour at every single election that I’ve been eligible to vote in, including all general, local and european ones. I agree that the military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan caused widespread harm in those countries and their “neighbours”, including the arrival off refugees to our shores. But that’s a scintilla of the numbers that have arrived and continue to arrive thanks to our free movement commitment within the EU. I’ve asked local councillors, local MPs and written directly to several key ministers, asking how and what they propose to do to ameliorate the situation described so accurately by Kippax Citizen - their responses are the usual drivel: some claiming leaving the EU would increase immigration; some (bizarrely) claiming immigration isn’t out of hand; others insisting that only by being in the EU can we control our borders. All smoke and mirrors; all politicalese - the vernacular used is supposed to baffle and befuddle, whilst Rome burns, so to speak.

Regarding the discussion in this thread about Boko Harem etc - our first staff INSET after half-term is on “Radicalisation” - the training is designed to help teachers, teaching assistants identify children who may be at threat of:

Female Genital Mutilation
Arranged marriage
Islamic Terrorism

The training is delivered by One Education, on behalf of the council (all schools, by dint of an edict from Ofsted are expected to deliver this). I’ve already done the training - it’s grim. Truly depressing that this is part of the educational make-up of our country.

But that’s a digression from my main point. This has beeen a healthy thread; some very sensible comments from both sides. But I still think we absolutely have to take this golden chance; the chance to end the utter farce that is free movement across the EU. A million arrivals every three years. Simply not sustainable. Hence, it has to be vote leave. Or we’ll regret for a very, very, very long time.

Thanks Johnny. A very well argued post!

I've been retired from teaching since 2001.
We were getting staff training on arranged marriage and fgm then.

None of those are commonplace in any EU country. They mainly happen in Asian and African cultures so not sure what point you are trying to make re: EU.

Let’s be clear, migration in this country is roughly 55/45 rest of the world and then EU. Most of what has been said on this thread relates to the 55 not the 45. Voting out will do nothing to stop the migrants who are heading here from Africa and the Middle East nor will it make it any easier to deport people who arrive here.

It will to people who don't head here directly. Take all of the Middle Eastern people welcomed into the EU by Merkel - in 5 years they can apply for an EU passport from their current host country and then use that to go anywhere they fancy in the EU.
