Now, for a little scheme I planning, I could do with a few ideas on what made Manchester. Basically, if you were to do a visual representation of Manchester, what would it be?

So far, I'm thinking:
- Lumps of coal
- A piece of railway line (first passenger railway went into Manchester, and the Station Building, part of the Museum of Science and Industry is the oldest railway station in THE WORLD! <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_Road_railway_station_(Manchester" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_ ... Manchester</a>) )
- Cotton
- Music
- Computer
- The three rivers, Medlock, Irwell and the Irk.

Can anyone think of anything else?

Just did a quick search on Google, and found this page:
<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Manchester" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Manchester</a>

including this great map of Greater Manchester:
<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hundred_of_Salford.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hund ... alford.png</a>

wilbur and orville wright were both born in the usa. you're thinking of john alcock, half of alcock and brown who were the first to fly the atlantic in 1919. he was born in seymour grove just over the boundary line between chorlton and ot.

The Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) was founded here by the Mancunian Pankhurst family (Emmeline and Christabel). They were the militant suffragettes! Manchester was important in the women's suffrage movement.
