It amazes me how many people state that sort of list as the be all and end all of Manchester Music. For me that lot were the arse end of the Manchester Music scene. The stone Roses were OK in patches but the rest were one hit wonders even Oasis were one hit album wonder.

This is a generational thing mate.....I think what you have listed are shite and your analysis of my list is shite but as i said this is a generational thing.

No honest, the list you gave were probably exactly my generation, I just thought the groups from that era were overrated, especially Joy Division. Ive never heard so much rot as them, they were a gimmick cos he danced around like a tool. But your right, its all about opinions. I guess I like pop records that are good tunes, whats the story...was a great pop record then Oasis went all rock n roll on us and haven't made a good record since for example!!

No honest, the list you gave were probably exactly my generation, I just thought the groups from that era were overrated, especially Joy Division. Try the new album mate its is a decent effort by OASIS, and I didnt mind standing on the shoulders of giants either, but then I like rock and roll (more rock than roll though.............)

Manchester proper population is approx 452.000.

Wythenshawe is appox 70.000. And half of them are on the social.

In fact it should be renamed Socialshawe.!!

So I made in incorrect assessment of populus, still biggest out of the old communist block and all my family from Wythy !!

The first phone lines were apparently provided in Manchester.

Briare canal built 1642.
In fact the Duke of Bridgewater got the idea from a visit to the canal du Midi.
