As Pirlo is coming to the end of his career he is not the player for us unless he is happy to play mostly in our European matches and help to finish matches off my keeping possession. His range of passing is superb but lacks pace.

Our team lacks pace going forward. It also lacks creativity. Difficult to solve with one signing. For me we need two - Bastian Schweinsteiger as he can sit at the back with De Jong if needed, tackle and create.

The more forward player I would like to see is Mario Gotze who at only 18 could prove to be a world star and one that could run our midfield for a decade though he could need time to settle. IMO neither Schweinstiger and Gotze are rapid but they certainly are quick in thought and execution. They would be significant improvements on Barry and Milner. How much would they cost and could they be persuaded to leave Bayern & Dortmund I don't know but money seems to talk as Owen Hargreaves eventually was sold.

For sure it will be an interesting summer.

Pirlo could still be a good addition to a top squad, but I don't think he'd be much to get excited about. You could get what, 2-3 years maximum out of him? Plus his style may not suit this league at all; I bet he'd get caught in possession far too often.
