Mancini - Nearly a year at City, what's your rating?

8/10. Rome wasn't built from the roof down.

Some great signings who are just starting to show how good they are....Silva and Ya Ya. Cannot wait until Balotelli has a few more games under his belt.

Once the stirrers are gone in January he might even get some good press. I still cannot understand how Hughes could do nothing wrong and Mancini can do nothing right!

He's a good lad. 3 points off joint top in December and we are still a newish team and likely to keep improving.

8/10

I think he's done a good job so far. 4th in the table and the side hasn't really got going yet as someone said. Not bad for a side that is still relatively new. Of course there's room for improvement (especially scoring more goals). In summary I like the guy and think he has been good for City. Let's keep building for the end of the season and seasons to come!

6.5-7 out of 10 for me.

I think hes achieved the bare minimum so far with what hes had at his disposal, we're currently 4th and whilst thats ok we certainly shouldn't be any lower than that with this squad, we have arguably the best squad in the division so i think 4th is bare minimum with what hes got there and how much hes spent which is a lot of money, im still not convinced by his tactics i think hes far to overly cautious especially against the better sides and im not sure hes a great man manager either, we keep hearing a lot about player unrest at the club and such and whilst im sure a lot of it is media rubbish if you keep hearing the same things regarding the same players there is usually an element of truth behind it.

The positives are hes got us defensively sound typical Italian really, we look very hard to beat and thats obviously a plus, but i think given the hundreds of millions spent acquiring this team again its the bare minimum we should be hard to beat, i think we should be playing better football certainly in an attacking sense with that we have, 8 home goals all season is not good enough.

Im not convinced hes the man to win us the major titles.

I know this is your opinion, but it's quite flawed when you take out the media influenced slant of your offering. Most sides do not pile in a bunch of players and get them to gel as quickly as Mancini has at our club. Sure he's had to do it dispensing of some of the players that were favourites at the club, but he hasn't been wrong, yet.

Also, he was waiting for a few of his buys to be available from injury/ suspensions/ personal problems I think it's a minor miracle that he kept us afloat to this point and riding the obvious derision from all corners, including our fans, whilst all this was going on!

In fact, during that uncertain period, we have been climbing and embedding ourselves in the position of the top four quite "quietly", even if we've been lambasted in the press, every week!

I think Mancini made the job harder for himself by encompassing such stark characters to the club, BUT they all have to will to win running through them and that's the point.

There's a method in his madness and the goals will come once the team know each other better in an attacking sense. At the moment we can see Silva and Tévez working each other's movement out with Yaya in there, every now and then. We haven't really seen the rest of the attack flow in with this initial 3 yet.

We're at 'Stage 3' of what I see as a 'Stage 5' plan. 1 was sorting the defence. 2, the midfield and now we're at 3 with the attack. 4 will be the team as a whole and 5 will be mentality of being the Champions.

I can't wait.

When they do, well, we'll be on another level in the Prem.

Tactics - 6
Man management - 3
Player acquisition - 9

6, that's what I'd rate him.

Man management = 3 going on 9. He actually seems to be disinterested in that aspect of the jiob. I dont think he cares what the players think of him or their colleagues.

I once heard an after dinner speech from Duncan Mackenzie when he described playing for Leeds against Liverpool. He was partnering Alan Clarke and they were up against Emlyn Hughes and Tommy Smith. It was well known that Smith hated Clarke with a passion and Mackenzie agreed that he would play on Smith's side to shield Clarke from the expected kicking. Part way through the match Hughes and Clarke went up for a header, Clarke nutted Hughes smashing his nose, blood everywhere. Smith wandered up to Mackenzie, chuckled and said "he's not a bad lad that Clarke".

Quite a few succesful clubs comprised of players that hated each other and/or their manager. I think Mancini is of the school that thinks that team spirit is over rated.

It's a work in progress and he continues to make progress. His signings have been good as far as I can tell as injuries have limited some of their starts. Big improvement in recent weeks playing more expansive football & with more luck in front of goal we could have been very comfortable on Saturday against gob shite Davies Wanderers.
I have concerns about the man management skills but understand that with the number of big money players we have, there is always going to be someone disappointed because their not playing and so perhaps his approach is more out of neccessity and he is just being pragmatic.
I think January will be interesting I just hope we don't contribute to players wages who go out on loan. That is not a good sign, it's weak and feckless.
Someone told me Souness said that when he joined Sampdoria Mancini was a kid already making his name and was aloof then so perhaps that is his personality.
I love the way he handles the media albeit I have noticed in recent weeks that he is getting more abrasive in his post match comments which I assume is a sign of the pressure he is under. Expectancy is a woman!
On one thing we can all agree there can only be be one boss, and he is not always going to get it right every time but he needs cast iron conviction in his own ability and skin as thick as rhino's arse when it goes wrong, so hopefully he is the real deal and we can look forward to some much needed continuity and silver ware for years to come.
We should reveiew at the end of the season
