why is he so defensive,
I know he's from italy ,they play like this in italy,
but italy is not the example we should be looking to imitate.
Unless you want negative football.
he could create goals and score goals as a footballer.
Yet as a manager safety first, then worry about scoring later.
he does not seem to have the intelligence to create a system to combine defence
with a creative midfield to link the play with the forwards.
the more i see us play under mancini the less goal scoring chances we create.
your thoughts please.

Read this thread. The whole thing. All 16 pages. I did and it gave me insight, perspective, and put a smile on my face.

Get to bed.

I am so glad no one has overacted to our only two games, with our two fullbacks playing 45 minutes out of 180 available. And Milner and Mario have played 40 minutes combined.

And last year doesnt count he had to use Hughes players to scrape together results. As Ancelotti said, give City a month before you judge them.

We played a bit negative when Mancini took over but then we scored loads towards the end of the year! 6-1 at burnley then 5-1 brum. We are playing this way at the moment until our new squad gels together. Why take risks till we are strong enough as a unit to? Things will get much more exciting but be prepared for a defensive outlook for the next month or so but then watch us go!

Well he won scudettos with Inter so he knows what he's doing, even if this is the Premiership and not the Serie A.

Don't doubt his intelligence, though.

at this stage claiming mancini is defensive or negative is too simplistic, you will know the reality in the very near future one way or the other

City are on the cusp of great things, and after half a lifetime of misery I am looking forward to this season more than any other in my living memory, and that includes the years when we won things!

You may think Mancini is a thick twat, but 3 Scudettos indicate to me he has some beans about him.

When his team win the title, as they will either this year or next, he will go down in history as possibly the greatest manager of the modern age, because he took a team that was average at best, bought wisely, and turned them into champions.

Mourinho may well be a great manager, but he has never had a job where he has had to turn an average team into winners. Baconface took years before he made United a title winning team. I will also mention other giants of the English game, like Shankley and Clough, both great managers as well as real characters, who had to take a look at their players, and improve things.

For sure, Mancini has an open cheque book at his disposal, but he has, in my opinion, bought well, and the options for attacking flair are there in abundance.

It remains to be seen how his team play, but I think it will be a surprise, in all honesty, and I think with the players we now have, entertainment is on the cards.

It's just my opinion. I suppose it's Porto I wasn't thinking about.

He's defensive because of the pressure, we are also gelling as a side and we could potentially be caught out at the back because of this.

Once we get settled I can see us becoming a great side to watch.

with porto he won the lot without the money and prestige and also to get inter milan to win the champions league over a barcelona side that is the best team in the world shows what a great manager he is

That's fine. I'm thinking about City at the moment.

Mancini reminds me of when Ranieri was in charge of Chelsea. He got seemed to set the ball rolling there but did not get them to the last step. We should keep a hold of Roberto and give him backing.

Let's not be so short sighted. Our blues were hammered last year at Tottenham. And a lot of teams dropped points there. 2 points gained already this year. And on the road in a two leg playoff you play to set yourself up for the next round.

Mancini wasn't a defender. Playing the game in the midfield (unless yer Nige) or attack is developed from a creative mindset. Few modern managers, no matter how creative or effective as players, carry that mindset into managing. They become cautious, chairmen breathing down their necks, fans chanting for a new man, and the truism still holds, yer can only be as adventurous as your players allow you to be.

The group of players the clubs has assembled allows for some element of adventure. There are still some areas that can be debated but I would expect a far more expansive approach, certainly at home. We shall see what we shall see!
