Mancini you are gutless

That's true of 'ordinary' league games.

But when you are likely to finish within 6 points of another team, the maths changes considerably.

Put it this way; if we start the day level with Utd, and lose 3-0 to them, we have to find three extra points from the other league fixtures, and make up a goal difference of 6, just to get back level with them.

If we draw, we only have to better their goal difference by one.

Sure, the reward for winning is just as big, but there's no way to go for the win without increasing the risk of leaving yourself a mountain to climb.

That's why the top four matches are usually disappointing and cagey.

It's also why we used to win more of them; we could afford to go for it, it didn't matter if we lost. Not to mention, Utd are taking them far more seriously now. That was as defensive a Utd performance as you will ever see. Same with us. It bears no relation to the way whatsoever to how we played at WBA.

Having said that, sometimes, you have no choice but to go all out to win, because a draw will do you no good. We aren't in that situation; we are three points behind with 26 to play. Utd have still to play Arsenal and Chelsea, so the teams above us will drop points.
Post of the thread mate and I had never thought of it that way

That's where the term "6 pointer" comes from.

Chick, I can see your point but still stand by my statement. Going for the win is the only tactic that makes sense. Sure getting a draw is better than a defeat but in the long run going for the win pays. Sadly the most successful side of the last 15 years has been United. They go for wins, even in the last minute ( although granted perhaps not last night ). I'm sure this is because Fergie understands and impregnates his players that only a win will do.

if city win 4-0 on sat and create 10 really good chances what does this thread mean???

hysteria isnt the word

I agree with you, but please remember its only about 5 or 6 posters who feel like this, and the OP seems to have a vendetta against the manager, not very healthy if you ask me

Going for the win only works long term with the best team.

?

Could have sworn he accepted a draw last night.

He made two defensive subs (defensive fullbacks for attacking ones) then a neutral one, replacing Berbatov with Hernandez.

I hate to disagree matey but I'm sure both of the United players were injured.Either way, we were the home team and should've done more.

Indeed

Apparently its just ''opinions''

I often don't agree with his tactics

But posting ''Mancini you are gutless'' could hardly be less inflammatory

Anyone posting thread titles like that would clearly appear to have an agenda

Fair enough if it's ''Ferguson you are gutless'' mind :-)

So what if he called Mancini gutless?

It's funny how it's alright going round calling fellow blues a "knob", "twat", "dick", "rag", "wanker", whatever takes your fancy.......

.......but dare to call the manager 'gutless' after the derby and it's hung drawn and quartered as an agenda driven poster with no integrity.......one day you'll learn to live and let live and not be so "precious" yourself.......

one day you'll be able to distinguish banter from ''threats'' perhaps

bit of a difference between, say, 'our manager got his tactics wrong' and calling him every name under the sun because he hasn't got a welsh surname

as for insults......check out the patronising attitude and insults of some of your comrades in arms when someone dares to disagree with them
