Cancelo really isn't that bad defensively - he didn't have a great run in, probably as a result of playing 60 games.

Decent defensive stats per 90 compared to Zinchenko and CucurellaView attachment 50385View attachment 50386

He can infuriate by picking the wrong time to be clever on the ball and can fall asleep at the back post, but he's not alone at the latter.
Can be a weak indicator sometimes given the level of possession and the infrequency of attacks we face; also the autonomy to be attack minded that he’s afforded will naturally get him caught out at times… even with that, we still had the best defence!

Maybe if he hands in a transfer request, things will start to roll and push Brighton's hand. I know this will not be ideal but even Walker told Poch that he wanted to move in order to push Levy's hand back in 2017.
Don't expect that to happen - He has a young family who are happy and settled down here after just one year from Spain.
I'm beginning to think we "may" get that one more season with Curu

*fingers crossed*

He’s probably right. Professional footballers with families rarely move clubs.

You could be right (hope not!). But if he does stay for one more season, i dont think it will be city he’d end up leaving to. Now or never to city and he’ll be made aware of that. We need a full back now not next summer and we dont tend to return for players after failed transfers whoever was at fault for the transfer failing.

Don’t be so sensitive. Sussex is beautiful never been to Brighton. New Brighton yeah but that’s another matter.
If we miss someone, they don’t generally get another chance. So he could stay for a few years and then go back to Spain. Not sure any other PL team would be worth leaving Sussex for!
Don’t know why, but keep thinking of the film Battle of Britain

1. Cucu is a Catalan and not from Brighton as you lot would like to believe. Guess what, our Coach and CEO are Catalans too.
2. His young family would not mind settling in rainy Manchester if their family income tripled.
3. Cucu would be playing in a top team challemging for honours with a top coach and in the Champions League.
4. He will be crossing to Haaland instead of whoever your number 9 is. Will make his case for starting in NT stronger if he plays here.

Now if you decline these things to Cucu, I am not sure he would be very happy about it. As was the case with Harry Kane, if you miss the boat with us, we dont hang about for too long.

Whilst I agree with your 1-4 I really don’t think Brighton will care if we don’t come back, same as Spurs. The player might care but that’s about it. 50m from us now or 50m from Barca in two years, it’s all the same for Brighton

With respect, if it doesn't happen I very much doubt it's cos he decides to give Brighton one more year

He'll probably get this one and only chance to join the champions and a club effectively run by Catalans and managed by the best Catalan manager in history

I expect him and his family are desperate to make the move

I admire your optimism and @£50m plus you may get another year. It is all up to the player. Let’s see if he can turn down a move to the champions. I very much doubt he will be denied in the end. The family angle as a security blanket is a non runner.
