Marc Guehi | City strong contenders for transfer this month (p60)

Palace suddenly licking their lips after the Gvardiol news. I don’t think this happens.

Can’t imagine Viana can justify it when he’s available for free in 6 months. Despite the signing on fee no doubt being big, as well as high wages due to more competition and there being a bigger queue when Summer comes.

That said, we can now give him guarantees over playing time.

We’d lose more money going out of the CL and slipping down the PL out of the CL places.

Everyone at City can justify it.

Might make sense for us right now, but majorly disrupts palace so they'd have to have a replacement lined up and a big offer for them to consider it. We might be ready to pull thr trigger now but that takes time for Palace so seems unlikely this moves quickly if at all. Perhaps if there is resentment towards the dippers attempts to get him they'd be happy for him to go elsewhere.

I'm also questioning the issues it causes longer term, Guehi will expect to play every week particularly when the dipeprs can offer him that, he simply isn't better than Gvardiol so what happens when he's back? Wpuld be a welcome surprise but don't see how this happens.

Personally, I think Guehi would displace Dias and play alongside Gvardiol.

He's right footed and, from what I've seen of him playing for Palace, he looks a better, more composed player, and a more effective leader than Dias.

We'd be bringing him in now as a guaranteed first choice CB or he'll just sit out his contract and sign for Liverpool in the summer.

EDIT: Just read about Gvardiol injury... Signing Guehi now is a no-brainer for us.

A Champions League spot might now be in doubt. Have to be in that

Didn’t we pay £18mill for DeJong when he had 6 months left on his contract nearly 15 years ago, £40mill now even with 6 months would be a bargain at 25.

Fatigue can definitely (and frequently does) contribute to players getting serious injuries though.
Of course it does but the only way it contributes to a broken leg is if you’re tired and slightly late to a challenge
If my memory is correct the Gvardiol challenge was a late desperate one to prevent a break due to an error by a different City player
