Marc Guehi | Staying at Palace

OReilly isn't and shouldn't be seen as a LB long term

not 100% Guehi isn't needed tbh, we have Bhah and Reis to come in next season (both are having top seasons in the club rhey are at) dias, stones, ake, khush and Josko can do the job fine till then

Rodri we are
getting 10 games max this season unfortunately.

We have more pressing concerns atm like a midfileder and goalscoring winger/attacking midfileder imho.

Time will tell if O’Reilly stays at LB. Clearly not playing a conventional LB role anyway. Interesting that Nunes at PSG (who is touted as the best LB out there), started his career as an AM. Same as Nico.

Juma Bah is miles off getting near this City side and Reis is getting good reviews playing next to Daley Blind in a relegation threatened team.

You can't compare them to Guehi.

Ake was part of the Bournemouth team that got relegated before we got him..
I think Ake is a good comparison to players like Semenyo, Anderson, Livramento & Guehi.

Reis and Bah are a little more of a project. Reis certainly looks good. They are like Khusanov now, who I think should be given more games but let’s see.

I think people are missing the bigger picture here saying just replace Ake with Guehi.

Yes it's a no-brainer move to make, but think about why Ake is leaving, lack of minutes.

Pep always has a preferred back 4 in all his his time here, and right now Gvardiol is the LCB.

Bringing in Guehi would be great competition and depth, but does he want to compete for that spot? I kinda doubt it.

Guehi is in that perfect middle age where he needs to play. Whereas a younger player usually accepts a backup role in the meantime like Khus and Reis.

On the flipside of this, think about why Ake isn't getting the minutes now.... he has been a loyal servant to the club and always played his part but his legs have gone for this level.

Guehi is in his prime now, having an unbelievable season this season and would be invaluable for this squad. Could rotate with Gvardiol and Dias but also alllow Gvardiol to play LB at times too. He could also play right back himself

I think it would have to coincide with Nico OR playing in midfield. Josko can help cover LB but also relying on Ait Nouri playing a lot.

Then you have Dias, Guehi and Josko rotating as 3 really experienced defenders.

Guehi is an interesting option. Left sided but right footed. Think he would expect to start and would pretty much be guaranteed starter at Liverpool but not convinced he would get that here and Ake or Stones would need to go to make room in squad. Although I would be happy if we could pull this off the ideal for me would be a Bastoni type signing , some height and muscle but with great passing and football ability (an italian John Stones but for the left !!).Ain't gonna happen for a number of reasons , not least because we will continue to develop Josko. Think we would continue to concede goals even with Guehi/Bastoni type though until we fix the midfield.

Stones & Aké being replaced with Reis and Guehi for the start of next season looks good to me, improves our defensive depth massively and with the 2 high earners off the wage bill and Guehi's contract situation it could even be done at a net profit!

I can't see us getting him in January, Palace will dig their heels in big time and Guehi won't force it knowing he can move in the Summer and his England place is guaranteed while he's starting every game.

I do still really rate Jarrad Branthwaite but his injuries are beginning to become a major concern.

I think Bah may stay out one more season

He definitely will imo. Cliché but he is the definition of a rough diamond. Physically he's the perfect defender and he's good on the ball aswell but needs coaching and experience because he does dumb shit all the time at the moment I'd rather have him making those mistakes for Nice. Certainly a player there though.

never did say they were, said he isn't a priority now or potentially in the future depending how they develop

cover for the central midfield and a wide attacker who can score goals is more pressing as well as a right back
