Marcus Rashford lobbying govt to help vulnerable children

Just had a look at his Twitter page and you know what, who gives a fuck what the reasons are he may or may not have started this campaign for. Seeing hundreds of struggling businesses getting on board to provide meals for children who would go without otherwise is the kind of thing that makes you proud. Or at least it should do. Reading some of the replies shows that sadly the country is still in the midst of a giant point scoring exercise.
Wherever it’s Covid, brexit, Trump, Boris or something relatively straight forward like feeding the poorest of society, it seems people will forever use these issues to point score and win an argument on the internet.
The problem with this tends to be there are no winners, or at least no winners at the bottom end of the spectrum. Just losers.
Keep it up Marcus because every single tweet showing the good people can do is a kick in the teeth to the abhorrent, self serving cunts who the good folk of the U.K. saw fit to vote in.

"you know what, who gives a fuck what the reasons are"

I do.

"Reading some of the replies shows that sadly the country is still in the midst of a giant point scoring exercise."

Better that than have no point at all.

So what is your point? Kids should suffer because of the incompetence of others?

Nothing but respect for the way he's championing a cause like this - using his position and status for something much bigger than any game or sport.

I repeat....

Tories believe poverty is a product of bad life choices, that poverty is self inflicted, those in poverty deserve to be in poverty and the state has no place in subsidising their indolence.

Except children don't have a choice and until recently it was accepted (kind of) across the political spectrum that children should be treated differently, that the state had some responsibility for their well being.

Until now.

OK I am one of those with half a brain. We as a nation now seem to think it is a right that schools provide breakfast and diner for any/every child every single day of the year. Why not tea as well ? and all paid for by the Government/taxpayer.
It is the job of schools to educate children not feed them.
If a child is missing 2 meals a day then the family he is from are having bigger problems than missing breakfast.
Every supermarket has a box by the door where free food is donated, every town/City have food banks. Are we saying the parents wont use these or is it they cant be arsed preparing a meal (2) for their child.

If the cunts that have their snouts in the trough at Parliament gave up their subsidised bars and meals the money could go a long way to feeding hungry children.

https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/p...-how-cheap-the-house-of-commons-bar-is/29/09/

"According to the latest stats taxpayers stumped up £57,000 a week to subsidise food and drink for politicians across both houses." = £2.96M

https://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/9202

"Currently, the government pays £2.30 for each meal taken under the universal infant free school meals programme introduced in 2014. "

So abolishing the tax payer subsidy for meals and booze for MPs on £80K + a year could provide about 1.29Million school meals.

oops sorry.
So what is your point? Kids should suffer because of the incompetence of others?

But you and others do not answer the basic question. In my opinion if a child is missing 2 of his 3 meals a day, every day then Social Services should be involved.
There is plenty of help for people who cannot afford the basics, if the parents are not accessing this help then the whole family is in need of serious, proper professional help.
Are we really saying that the UK are the same as many 3rd world countries?

Well done to him.

he will get a sanding ovation when we are at the etihad again Playing the scum and his name read out .

some people in life moan and others do stuff. He is doing stuff .

we can argue all we like about the responsibility of parents but at the end of the day it’s not the fucking hungry kids fault he was born to a pair of selfish toe rags.

children should not have to worry about being fed in this country.

Thank you, I've just had the almost exact same conversation with some selfish, self righteous ptat on twitter.

I missed that post as I've only been dipping in and out of this thread. I agree with all you say. When I mentioned that I didn't care about the reasons why he's doing it, I was directing it at the arguments saying its a PR stunt and not due to the government's incompetence.
