Marcus Rashford lobbying govt to help vulnerable children

Well done Rashfords PR team. Great bit of brand building. Wrote a letter for him too.
Media can use this story too, plenty of clicks, win , win situation.
Might be a genuine lad, but building up his account numbers is genuine too.

I don't care if someone else wrote it for him, it's the opinion that matters and if he's motivated enough to get his ideas across to Parliament then good luck to him.

Young people should always be agitating to change things for the better, sometimes I think the current generation are too passive and conformist so it's good to see people like Rashford and Sterling speaking out on difficult issues.

Got a lot of time and respect for Rashford. Seems like a genuinely good guy. Sad state of affairs though that it requires a footballer to plead with the government to stop vulnerable children going hungry.

My reply is more for Off Top but why is it anything for the Government to be involved in ? In some cases schools already provide breakfast clubs, soon the school will be expected to provide 3 meals a day. In fact we could let them stay there all the time and call it a boarding school !

Why do we always look to blame 'the Government' for everything.

What an utterly pitiful response. I’m sure it was some dismal attempt to prove that you are The Biggest Blue On The Forum, but you’ve merely come across as pathetic.

Wait a minute I was the first to reference the PR people, it should be me who gets the criticism. I think it is what they are employed for, hence the title ,PR people.

First impressions usually last, noticed Rashford was the only player on the pitch to check how a City player was after a bad tackle from another Rag. Also did a funny kids question and answer session recently letting the only blue ask the first question. Nice lad .

It’s an important issue which needed bringing to the government’s attention.
Rashford seems like as good a choice as any to deliver the message so if it makes a difference then regardless of the reasons behind it (definitely put together by utds PR team, got that **** Ashtons grubby fingerprints all over it) it can only be seen as a positive.
He’s low down on the list of gobshites who are involved in that club and I don’t have any animosity towards him, though the fact remains he’s still an overrated speed merchant.

The issue is that with schools closed to many children as a result of the pandemic, the most vulnerable kids are no longer getting the meals they would otherwise have had. Are you seriously suggesting it is not the job of government to ensure that children in poverty don't go hungry!?

Go read any scouse forum and you'll see the same snide "doing it for the PR" about Sterling as I'm reading in this thread.

Speaks volumes.
It’s not snide, Billy. Just an opinion which has some merit due to Neil Ashton being the worst type of PR manager around.
If the message achieves its aim then everyone wins.

Indeed. He deserves great credit for what he's doing.

The two sides of the argument can both be true you know. They are not mutually exclusive.
I am sure he is a fine lad, and does as much if not more than other players for great causes , and i applaud him for that.
Manchester United have one of the most successful PR policies in the World and they use it to build a brand. The players are part of this machine. Ighalo is a PR monster in his home Country, Pereira (who) has millions of followers on some media thingy. All these profiles are cogs in a massive machine, the more followers , the more they can ask for in sponsorship.
It is a reality, but I would not criticize the lad himself.
As a footballer, I must agree with @Pablo1 , a straight line speed merchant.
As to the poster who hopes he will play for City one day, speechless.
Jesus gets pelters for scoring a goal every two games.

It has nothing to do with the pandemic. he is asking for schools to provide free meals during the summer holidays.
As already stated and I note you did not answer, if they already provide free breakfast and now lunch what about tea (dinner for the posh ones) Why is it the schools responsibility to feed children ? who pays for the staff to go in during the holidays ?
If a child is not being fed at breakfast and lunch perhaps it is Social Services not schools that should be stepping in.
This is just a silly publicity stunt by his PR team.
Also where does it stop ? perhaps the schools should clothe the kids all funded off course by the Government, (by that I mean us)

I think Rashford and Vinny with his homeless campaign have both been a credit to the City of Manchester. I also think Raheem has been a fantastic role model for the whole country. I am not as cynical as others and think it's refreshing that more players are speaking out in public and trying to improve things in their own communities. I don't care if they have been helped by PR experts either.

That's a brilliant letter, they may not all have been his words but his heart and soul has been poured into it.
