I think I may have posted something about this previously, see newspaper articles below from February 2009 and October 2014
I have heard rumours that a certain referee owed a sum of money to a bookmaker.
Mark Clattenburg has successfully appealed against his sacking as an elite referee and has been reinstated as a Select Group Referee. His sentence has been commuted to an eight month ban.
The 33-year-old was dismissed last month following a disciplinary inquiry held by the Professional Game Match Officials limited - the body in charge of referees - for "issues relating to his private business affairs". But the
Premier League have confirmed that Clattenburg successfully challenged that decision, with an appeal panel ruling that he should be handed a less severe punishment.
Clattenburg has, therefore, been banned for a period of eight months, backdated to start on 6 August 2008 - the date of his original suspension. He will be eligible to return to refereeing duties on 6 April.
A statement from the PGMO read: "Mark Clattenburg has been reminded of his responsibilities and contractual obligations as a Select Group Official, particularly in regard to full disclosure of any outside business interests. PGMO is confident that he has the ability to regain his position as one of English football's top officials."
Clattenburg had been due to take charge of last August's Charity Shield clash between Manchester United and Portsmouth but was replaced by Peter Walton when accusations were made that he had allegedly threatened a business associate in an email. The official, who ran his own electrical firm, denied all the claims made against him.

The FA has suspended Mark Clattenburg from refereeing any Premier League games this weekend after he travelled alone to West Bromwich Albion's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last Saturday.
According to reports, Clattenburg made his way by himself to The Hawthorns so he could head back to Newcastle quickly after the match in time to attend an Ed Sheeran concert that evening at Metro Radio Arena.
FA rules state that referees must travel with their assistants to and from games for security and integrity purposes, leaving the Association with little choice but to punish the official for breaking protocol.
It's also alleged that Clattenburg spoke to the Crystal Palace manager, Neil Warnock, while in his car after the match - once again contravening Premier League standards.
Make your own minds up.
