After accepting Sky's cordial invitation to comment on our expected defeat at Stamford Bridge, Hughes was surprisingly candid about his downfall

Re: Mark Hughes On Our Owners

Did you enjoy your long sleep Johnny!? It's always an easy excuse the "not our man" one. Had he won more games it would not have mattered.

I still like the man and think he was the ultimate professional while at City. Never slagged refs or other teams off and came across really well.

I hope he lands a top job and I'm sure he'll get a good welcome back to COMS.

+1, he did'nt do great for us imo but he did well. QF Uefa and semi of CC deserves a bit of respect

Let's see if he does land a top job, that will tell us more about how he is perceived and rated as a manager.

If Benitez leaves Anfield in the summer, will Liverpool consider Hughes?

He "wasn't their man" to the tune of about 150 million in the transfer market so don't really buy that. If had been able to organise a defence, he would have kept his job.

Bit harsh, similar could be said about Mancini and our midfield.

It wasn't intended to be overly critical, just the way I see it. And yes if after 18 months, Mancini cannot get a whole section of our team to even remotely function properly, no matter how much money he spends on it, and it really affects our results then I would think he will struggle to keep his job. If they were particularly arsed whether Hughes was their man or not, they wouldn't have even given him 18 months and certainly wouldn't have let him spend all that money.

well hughes was going to say "well, obviously i just couldnt get the defence working". although, as oherssay he was the ultimate professional, and ill give him a cheer if he comes back to coms with his new team

I was a big fan and confident he'd get the team improving and have a strong second half to the season. We'll never know what would have happened now. 2 wins in 8 under Mancini. How long before he is hounded out?

He didn,t buy Jo !!
He didn,t buy Robinho!!
They were thrust on him as a PR excecise by Shinawatra and The Sheikh.
We are now beggining to see why he wanted Lescott so much. The lad has taken off in my opinion and putting in some great performaces of late.
However you cannot fault him with some of his better buys Given,De Jong,Kompany,Bellamy.

Yet he was on a run of 2 wins in 11 at the time he was fired, interesting.........So looking at it that way Mancini's 2 in 8 doesn't seem to bad.

Hughes spent 180m pounds (NOT including Jo and Robinho). I think we are all entitled to a much more balanced squad for that amount of money. As I said before, if Mancini, Mourinho, Hiddink, Del Bosque, Capello, Guardiola (and many other top coaches, i.e. people who have actually won something) had spent that amount of money there is no doubt that we would be competing for the title this season.

And what's more Mancini has been parachuted in mid season with players he may or may not rate. Hughes's bad run came after 18 months, loads of his favourite players, crocked or not, and two pre seasons in Germany. And still they could not defend.

Give Roberto a bit of slack.

What does the "the ability to overachieve" mean when we had the best squad outside the so called Top 3??

Talk about a defeatist mentality...

He said he was asked go achieve 6th/70points.

He believed he could "over achieve" that target and reach fourth... its the opposite of defeatist. Thought he came across very well that day, he's gone now. History. But i'd applaud him if/when he comes back, didnt attempt one swipe at us and seemed genuinely happy we'd beaten Chelsea.
