Martín Zubimendi

The question remains:
I am aware of the Euro 2028 selection, but it is not worth £300 million.
If the club is found guilty, the owners and executives’ positions will become untenable, and the extension will become a £300 million white elephant. Therefore, they must have genuine confidence in their position.
Regardless of how the case has gone, they're not going to give hints to what the verdict could be.

To get back to the topic of Zubimendi, I'm not holding my breath given the context that he turned down Liverpool several months ago and doesn't seem like he would leave Sociedad in a season where they could possibly qualify for European competitions next season.

I’ve heard about it FFS. It seems like a rather pessimistic perspective. The executives don’t seem to share that view. They’re quite firm in their stance, with solid evidence to support it. If top players are genuinely concerned, they can always include a release clause in their contracts.
I think it's naive to think our guys in charge saying they are innocent is enough to remove all doubts among potential targets around the world. If they are happy were they are in their career right now many are probably happy to wait and see what the outcome is before signing a 5 year deal without any certainties they can get out of it, or were they would end up if they somehow can, if the outcome is negative.
It's not just "they can always just include a release clause", would City agree to one significantly lower than what they paid? Who would activate it, if anyone does? They often have a family that has to move abroad, children changing schools and so on. No matter how one sees it, there is a lot of uncertainty. Uncertainty that can be avoided or at least reduced if they wait a few months.

Doesn't mean it's impossible to sign players, but of course it has some impact. Even more likely so on someone who just turned down a move to Liverpool because he didn't want to leave his boyhood club which tells me he isn't exactly in a hurry to leave his current club.

With that said, I would obviously be happy if we managed to sign him. The point of my original post when someone questioned "whats the thought process" about us not signing Zubimendi was more that its possible we want to sign him but its Zubimendi who doesn't want to move. He just turned down a move to another big PL club so not sure why the poster didn't even consider that as an option.

Not seen much of him. Does he have the legs for the premier league? We’re missing a lot of pace and physicality in the middle and he seems like a ‘controller’ type, similar to Kovacic.

The injuries are geniue concern. This is not because of me being over negative during January's transfer window. We have to tread very careful in bringing players now. By all means have a punt but it does mean overstretching us with the valuation and our supposed budget. Something we didn't do when making an attempt in signing Mahrez in the Centurion season but we did eventually did in the next transfer windw.

Given Zubimendi turned Liverpool down and would prefer to stay in Spain, I really hope we're not going to chase him all January only to end up with a fuckin Wolves player.
