I always thought the £10m comment was made about Phillips when he was a kid and it was regurgitated on his arrival at city. Time seems to have changed that to Ball announcing, on his signing he would be the first £10m player. The Italians had done a few £10m+ already by the time we signed him. I think Shearer went for £15m a few weeks later to break the mark for british clubs.
