I know he's not one of ours but he's had to hang up his boots after serious knee problems, always thought he was a quality defender. Whilst he is 31 and has had a decent career, he probably could have played at the top level for a few more years. Sad to see this happen.

We should have gone in for him a few years ago when Villa were struggling. Proper defender.

yes always a shame when a good honest pro has to call it a day when they had a few years left.

Great defender, played less than 100 times for Villa, but he has become a firm favourite there. Says alot about the guy.

What he's probably realised is that if he carries on playing and going under the knife, he wont be very mobile in a few years.

what a shame quality defender milan signed him and had nesta maldini stam at the same time so shows how highly he was thought off just shows how bad them knee injurys are ie paul lake gazza was never the same bet he makes a great manager
