Mason Holgate

More than likely this kids agent has been putting a shift in to try and get his client a better contract, either at Everton or another club.

I don't think he's all that, but a big money deal would no doubt see he agent pocket a large wad.

Id take him as he would be Stones replacement, not our only CB signing

We need two CBs. Both Otamendi and Stones are so far below what is required its unbelievable. Holgate is not amazing but there are not exactly amazing HG CBs around.

There's been some talk that Stones camp believes he needs change of scenery to save his career.

Thought as an Everton fan i'd give my two pennies here.

As good as he is, he's still young and learning the game and thats not what you need right now as you have a few of your own players like that. You need a top quality CB who is in their prime to improve you straight away - hence the links with Koulibaly.

As a player, when we signed him the Barnsley fans were saying he was more highly rated than Stones there so we were hopefull after Stones left that we had a replacement. Its took a couple of years and a loan out but this season he's been superb. He hasnt been as rash coming out, he's very vocal (hence the Everton fans captain shouts). He's not the tallest but manages in the air as he has a good jumping reach. He's brilliant on the ball for a CB (which is a must for Pep) and his timing of tackles is very good.

Plus, unlike Stones, Holgate actually relishes defending. Give it a year or two and if he keeps up his developmemt he will be one of the top CB's in Europe and I can see you coming back then.

His agent is Rio Ferdinand! But he's only just signed a new 5 year deal

Based on this, I'd say take him now at a lesser price and loan him back to you for 2 years :)

There was talk of a swap with Stones plus ££ and the overwhelming majority wouldnt take it, yet we loved Stones. This kid has everything Stones has (or had) but is defensively better and way more aggressive on the pitch. Stones always seemed too nice and chilled - Holgate is fired up and angry!

I like Stones. A confident Stones is a Rolls Royce of a player. Haven't paid much attention to Holgate though. But if he has the good Stones qualities plus aggression. That is likely something special
