The book is a fascinating read. He used to go "hunting" in bars where he would pick a fight, do them in and wander off into the night. Dna wasn't as prevalent then you see.
If I remember correctly, he got his first taste of the kill when he murdered his bully when he was a kid. He liked it, got a bit good at it and chose it as a job.
The film is dog shit though. For me it misses too much "meat" out of the storyline.
