Hi lads, just got back home from the game.
Aris has changed tactics since coach Hector Cuper left, our temporary manager follows a far more defensive formation this last month he's in the team. We don't like that either but it would be dangerous for us to play in the 4-4-2 style we did vs Atletico, Leverkusen & Rosenborg. Our fast wingers have left the team (Javito to La Coruna and Calvo to Parma), and captain Sergio Koke was left out of squad just before the game.
You understand that when it's a David vs Goliath encounter like this, you have to wait and endure, and if possible hit on the counterattack. It is important we kept a clean sheet against a City team featuring most of their star players in the starting lineup. You know Dzeko alone is worth 3 or 4 times the whole team of Aris.
Anyway it's a matter of viewing point, you guys apparently believe it was just City who underperformed but it's never a one-side case. Aris defender Vangeli exterminated Tevez, while Guiaro & Lazaridis most of the times interrupted the final passes close to our area. We had a better second half but without fast-paced wingers we just couldn't break through your defence properly.
From City I liked Kolarov, although I think he had wrong positions in the far left in quite a few occasions. Yaya Toure was a sharp passer but veeery slow (did this guy pass ergometric tests this year? he looked like he came back from retirement) and i think City spent much time in a useless passing game which didn't actually organize as many attacks as it should. Shaun Wright-Philips looked nervous, i think he had a bad night.
I have a bittersweet taste from the result, both sides could have scored one but this draw was fair to my eyes, and better for us it was goalless.
Congratulations for your fans who visited our city, from what I heard and saw they were very decent *although i wonder why they seemed to just watch the game and only chanted in ..halftime and after the match ended*. Didn't expect them to be that quiet.
See you at COMS!
