Match discussion - Tottenham Hotspur (A) Fri 19 Sep 19:30

Fuck me we were wasteful in front of goal again. Incredibly frustrating, we should have scored 10. Our 2 strikers, Miedema and Bunny being the worst culprits, what a shit penalty that was and Beney, Hasegawa and Grace all missed sitters as well.
LBB man of the match for me, she was excellent. Shout out to Kerolin she's fucking rapid and they were shit scared of her.
Looks a bad one for Lauren but we'll have to wait for a scan to find out.

Kerolin was our best forward, Casparij was solid as ever, but LBB was player of the match.
After having slim options in midfield last year, looks like this year there's some tough selection decisions to be made.

I thought Bunny didn't look happy when Miedema give her the ball.

Good result that and as stated exactly what we should be doing to teams of Spurs level in this league. There's 12 teams in the league - 8 of them City should be beating home and away with something to spare with our squad/resources. The league season then stands and falls on the 6 games vs Chelsea, Arsenal and the Rags. Those games are the only ones where pts may be dropped but beat the 3 of them at home, flat track bully the rest and that should ensure a top 3 finish.

Kerolin looks a potential star tbh and Fujino always seems to impress when I watch her play. With our renowned injury luck that's probably the last we'll see of Lauren Hemp till about March - am expecting the worst because that's what it always seems to be for us.

Anyone know what the injury is to Lohmann btw which seems to be being kept as a thing of mystery by City? Why do they always keep everyone in the dark on injuries - baffles me.

Jaglertz said last week that she "had a thing with her leg" but wasn't too serious.

This week's presser was “Sydney [Lohmann] is on her way, (but) most likely not really ready.”

It did feel like that.
According to the stattos, we created 7 "big" chances (up from 3 in both our previous matches), but we did outperform xG for the first time this season. So onwards and upwards.

Have to say, Bunny's body language has been a bit off all season. It was the thing I liked the least about the Chelsea game.

They'd won both games until tonight, without conceding a goal, so away from home it's not a given we would win, scoring 5 has to be a great result, and we always miss lots of chances, we're still missing key players (and probably another - who we missed most of this game).

I haven't seen any of it as I busy this evening, but a 5-1 away win was well above my expectations from this fixture.

Good away win against a really rubbish looking Spurs side. Looked like they bought our level down.

Expected Spurs to present more of a challenge going off their opening games but they were pretty rubbish all in all.

Still, we played well and agree that LBB looks a really classy player. Crazy to me we paid a pretty hefty fee to bring her in during the winter window a couple of years back and then Taylor barely gave her a look in.

Sloppy from Clinton on their goal but im not worried, we all know that's not typical of the player she is.

Kerolin was a real handful and has pace to burn. Really fun player to watch.

Beney already looks a good player but her finishing needs to improve.

I wouldn't worry too much about Bunny's body language. I think shes one of those who puts ridiculously high standards on herself and is very much in her own head during games. Rarely see her crack a smile during a game unless she scores.

Re their goal, just watched it again and I dont know why anyone feels that they need to see Keating make a performative dive for it. Absolutely nobody is getting near that.

Laura B Brown had a great game. POTM for me
I agree. She’s grown in confidence from the first game v Chelsea, where I thought she struggled a bit but I thought she did well v Brighton and yes PoTM for me v Spurs.

Actually, the stats I looked at weren't the final ones - it was actually 9 big chances created, with an xG of 4.5 and a net xG of over 4.

It was the most dominant victory in the WSL so far from what I can see (unless somebody massively underperformed their xG).
Previous best was Chelsea v Villa. That was the only other match where the xG was greater than 3, with 6 big chances created. Chelsea did give up 3 big chances themselves however.

Spurs may have won at Everton, but Everton have been poor. The 4-1 against Liverpool really flattered them - pretty much every attack ended in a goal for them.

I doubt we will have too many matches that are as comfortable as that.

Re Keating and the goal. If she'd have saved that, that's save of the season done and dusted. It was mostly Clinton's fault with a bit of Rose.

Onwards to Everton - as I see it we have 24 outfield players and 6 are currently injured, so there's not too much scope for rotation. But it's definitely a game where the likes of Yui need to sit out.

After Gareth Taylor and his "pass it square past it back " that was a chaotic , refreshing change . We sacrificed possession for harum scarum and risk with lots of forward passing and speedy transitions . We were on the front foot so much I thought we might topple over . Tottenham never looked threatening and we blew their lauded clean sheet off the tree like spring blossom in a tornado .

Our midfield clicked in a way it didn't on Saturday and LBB never stopped with Yui to remain calm beside her . Was disappointed when Hempo went off but the speed and vigour of Kerolin was joyful . Also happy to see a goal from Fujino who is more than a useful winger, providing a press proof link from midfield to the front line . Great shot after some nice exchanges . And good that Grace Clinton has scored already . She adds some heft to the midfield too .

Only downside is the keeper . I simply don't have confidence in her. No attempt to save that shot that gave Spurs their goal .

Frustrating that the men's and women's League Cup games are on the same night . Got tickets for both ( cup scheme for the women ) so will have to make a choice but Huddersfield is closer for me.

From what the Haringey coach said pre-match I thought we might be fucked. Never expected a rout. I think we had four goals before 'Otspurs had a shot.

Kerolin was doing the full back every time.

Poor pen. The only one of two places where a goalie has a chance.

Pity about the clean sheet vanishing so late on!

I agree.. there are very refreshing and encouraging signs after the first three games. We have upped the tempo and pressing and look very speedy and dangerous going forward.
As the manager says we're becoming unpredictable with a flexible system using quality players who can't be tied down to specific positions. Our opponents then have problems trying to work out strategies to beat us. This is in stack contrast to what has been served up by the previous management with ponderous slow build ups and then getting easily caught out on the break. Predictable.
The keeper is a massive problem and I'm amazed we haven't gone out in the summer and brought in a top class goalie. The one that did come in looks like 3rd choice and another one for the future. This could cost us as it has the last few seasons. Defensively we have some good quality in there it's just a matter of finding the right partnership at centre back. I would have liked to see a new left back but maybe O Hanlon will step up in the new year.
New signings look good especially in midfield areas so all in all plenty to look forward to!

We have a top class goalie in Yamashita. I dont blame Keating one bit for their goal but i would at the moment prefer Yama playing that role.

O'Hanlon watch: She was an unused sub in the first match; nowhere to be seen against Durham. Make of that what you will. Poppy played whole game for Durham though.

It was interesting that of the last day loans, O'Hanlon was the only one not for a full year and the club statement emphasised the temporary nature, so I think she's in the club's plans.
