The ref was Roger Kirkpatrick. He was famous for his theatrics and other antics back in the 70s. Old timers often mention him when they moan that there are no 'characters' amongst today's refs.
For reasons best known to himself, Gerald Sinstadt called him Ralph when he was setting the scene at the beginning of his commentary.

Difficult to remember when and why “You’ll never walk alone” became specific to Liverpool? Well and Celtic.

Everyone used to sing it back in those days. Even as recent as the Charlton 5-1 game in ‘85, you can hear City fans singing it on the clips.
