Match of the Day - 2015/16

Some ridiculous red cards this weekend. The newcastle one was never a red, he's clumsy but nothing more, the rule about studs shown is the most pathetic rule in the game and the refs take it way too literally, There's no intend in it and no malice, when will we train refs to possess a bit of common sense? Howard Webb was the only one in probably the last decade that actually had some. Affelay red is pathetic too, book him and book gardener for the slaps and for being pussies and get on with it. The Adam one is a little bit different, I can see why the assitant thought it was a stamp but as much as i hate him i don't think it was intentional, he just landed on him and had to put his foot somewhere.

Ranieri doing his best Pullis impression. He looks like somebody who's been on a stag do to Bournemouth got stripped naked and tied to a lampost, been picked up by the police and forced to wear whatever lost property he can find.

disagree, Webb said it was a red, and I tend to agree, perhaps some will say it's over-cautious, but after the leg breaking injuries that came from tackles, that may not have been malicious but were above the ankle, I think it's right to be cautious. If that was on Silva or Aguero there'd be uproar.

Can't touch the face either, no matter how silly it is. Adam's was a stamp, he had 2 chances to put his foot down and move away, but had regained his balance and went back for a third plant on the WBA player when there was no reason to, clearly wanted to leave something on him, and got caught.

Silly tackle by Bournemouth, don't know why defenders lunge in there when Vardy is going nowhere, no sense.

Adam has form for sneaky stuff, just ask Merlin.
He was leaning back and then moved forward to stamp on the player.
Definite red...horrible player who runs a mile when it gets tasty. A lot like braveheart Robbie Savage in his day

What do Liverpool need?
A new stadium.

Great insight from Motd as always.

Fair enough, i respect your opinion, don't agree with the first bit though. I hate the over-cautious almost non-contact approach football has taken over the last 10-15 years. For me it's just clumsy rather than reckless and there was no real danger of injury. The Affelay one i get where you're coming from, they know you can't raise your hands so i suppose it's his own fault for being so stupid but i just think making such a big game-changing decision and sending him off for that is unnecessary. A yellow apiece and nobody would of complained. The Adam one i'm not 100% convinced on but having seen the replay since my first comment i think you might be right. I just don't know how much of that opinion is influenced by it being one of the most detestable players in the league who has a history of shitbag tackles like that.

I would largely agree, but I can only speak from watching the game, and being a grassroots ref (doesn't make me right btw), but for me, If I see a tackle like Mitrovic's, I wince, and for me if you go over the ball and plant your foot, it's just dangerous, even if it's not malicious, it's not always the hardest tackles that cause horrible injuries.

On Adam, the opinion is influenced by his previous, but equally because he has previous, when you see him do something like that today, you know what he's up to. It's not like on the first attempt to plant his foot he accidentally caught him, he stumbled twice, and then on the third go, looks and plants his foot on his leg, I think the assistant was spot on, it's like Fellaini with his elbows, you know what he's up to.

You don't make a tackle with the bottom of your studs, so Mitovic is looking to go over the ball. Remember the ball is on the grass is he going to stamp on it? Don't think so! He is going to leave a bit on his opponent let him know he is around and the ref saw it that way. Good decision
