He was non-existent for Chelsea tonight.

I know and you'll certainly find some comments from me on this forum about his form 18 months ago, I'm just wondering aloud whether the space he created and runs he made were just as important.

It just sterlings movement was world class, despite his other failings (and the 131 goals he scored) really created space and havoc for opposition defenses. Mahrez's ability to control the ball is exceptional. However, everything fucking else this season is shite. And his lack of desire to do anything else, including even vaguely attempting to tackle is a detriment to the team overall. Ah well.

He frustates the hell out of me as you.
Just feel his ball control and clinical finishing compared to Raz is the difference for me.
As for tackling I give up on that a long time ago in Pep's teams.

Fair enough, although his clinical finishing doesn't happen when he's 12 yards out with just the goalie to beat :)

He's lost pace and knows he's lagging behind, hence the panalties to justify his place in team.
But Pep knows he hasnt got any work
ethic yet trusts his ball control over players like Raz.
Pep's philosophy is.. if we have the ball they can't hurt us.

I’m not knocking Mahrez as a player, just a penalty taker. I think it’s great to have the confidence to take one in a big game, but to repeatedly take them, in the same way, while not converting, is the height of idiocy, especially given the alternatives.

On his overall game, I said in another thread (I think) that he’s stealing a living at the moment.

However, one thing that no-one can deny…he can control, and kill, a ball like nobody’s business!

Until recently he actually had a good record. People of course remember vividly the satellite he launched against the dippers but other than that he was solid. A bit of a problem for us now though gone are the days you could rely on Yaya or Mario or indeed Milner although don't seem to recall him taking many. Some of course still might remember Lee one Pen but I'm sure Frannie missed a few as well.
