We don’t look fit and that’s the biggest problem out there today. We know this is the kind of preseason Pep goes for. Given the length of the season and how we have performed under him we just have to accept it.

That being said there are a few things that still standout:

1. The Grealish/Mahrez wide pairing is fucking woeful. Neither of them can attack the byline and are so predictable. Where Mahrez is concerned, I look at us and think, last season we had 3 players battling for the wide right spot. We have kept the worst of the 3.

2. When Chelsea came calling for Ake, we should have snapped their fucking hands off. The euphoria on here when it was announced he was staying was absolutely baffling. He is nowhere near our level.

3. KDB was looking great in the previous games but all of a sudden looks rusty as fuck.
That’s the spirit!

They have more games in their legs than us
We are still learning how to feed Haaland
all to be expected really
we can still win this

I’m sorry. I hate coming on to the match thread to be negative, but I have to vent. Over the summer I decided to start a fresh with my perception of Mahrez. The Madrid match last season where he didn’t square it to Phil for the tap in was unforgivable for me. But today has just reiterated that he is just too fucking greedy for this team. I must be wrong, as Pep wouldn’t be playing him if he was, but from what I see he just slows everything down, doesn’t pass and ultimately loses the ball.

He’s technically brilliant, but fuck me get your head up and pass the fucking ball.
Definitely going to need to be less greedy this season.

He can work good openings.

Just pass the fucking ball at that point.

Instead of going on to try and get a shot off, or losing the Ball.

Agree. Thought it’s a bit of a strange one to play Kev so far up now we have a striker. Can’t see it mattering against most teams but leaves us pretty open against these and probably Arsenal.

Other than that you can just see they’ve had more matches than us. Should be a good work out to get us up to speed for the real thing next week. I’ve never really gave a shit about the charity shield. Would rather save my money for the proper games. That said against these twats it would be wonderful to turn it around 2nd half!
We've always dictated the midfield area against Liverpool with the three of Rodders, Bernie and Kev but i think today Pep was looking at Kev to play closer to Haaland so he's not isolated up top he would have someone to play off so it's understandable what he's trying to do.

I'm more amazed that we haven't pressed Adrian, I think it's crazy we aren't pushed higher up the pitch to close him down, His distribution is shit.
