It has not been an impressive first half in terms of goals and clear cut chances so I can understand why many will be bored enough to pick on a player. So let me follow suit and pick on Boyata as well.
Pellegrini had the Sunderland game in mind and also after the game on Wednesday and I am sure some impressive displays in training and the show of attitude and approach of Boyata, he decided -''well why not give him a go today as well, as Demechelis and Mangala have some glaring faults so to speak and they are can rest as a benefit in light of the game next weekend''.. And I for one think he has been very good and has not looked out of place. As a matter of fact, I honestly cannot recall any game that Boyata has really looked out of place but people seem to equate paucity of opportunity to bad performances and inference on the quality of the player but the bottom line is that the guy has not been given enough opportunities for us to give a final verdict on him.
I think he is underrated.
Hopefully he will get more opportunities in the future. He reads the game well, composed on the ball, good attitude about him and puts his head down and works with no complaint or complex.
In this game we have not had enough creativity but hopefully it wont matter. The team is strong enough and have been dominant enough to not be too worried.
More of the same in the second half and I am sure we will get the win.
