Match Thread | Manchester City vs. B. Dortmund (05/11/25)

Took 10-15 mins to get going. Dortmund a handful. But then we got going and ripped it away from them just like that. So much technique and power in the front five tonight and it's paying dividends in this new system.

Dortmund started with a lot of intensity, and have pressed high basically all night, so we just sat in a defensive shape, didn't panic, and waited for the momentum to shift. Then it was BANG BANG and suddenly it was 2-0 to City.

I like this new system where Gonzalez is the start of every move, Foden and Reijnders drop in to make space, Doku tucks in while Haaland and Savinho look for the runs. Dortmund have been turned round on a few occasions so far.

John still getting used to not having Eddie behind him - that's a couple of times he's second-guessed himself. At least he's quick-witted enough to adapt (except for once :-/)

Donna quick to move it, always. Nothing like the nervy moments some were predicting when we bought him.

On the whole we've played very well and each player has played his part. Just need to cut out some of the sloppy play. Their only real attacks have come from our poor passing, control and decision making.

Savinho and Doku have both been lively and Foden has linked things well in the middle. Should really be more than 2 up.

Keep it going 2nd half, while cutting out the sloppiness, and we should win this.

Very clinical.
Doku and Sav caused constant problems, albeit not always with end product.
Nico G ran the midfield, played very well.

Their winger is casuing Nico O a few issues, potentially Salah will be the same on Sunday. Dunno.

Overall good and fairly comfortable.

A few times early on we were caught by a direct ball and them picking up the ball, thats about the biggest negative but Nico G did sort that out after about 10 mins or so.
