This is the best first game back from injury that Mendy has had for us.

Incredibly specific praise is my favourite genre of praise.

Done just enough but not anything more. Settled back into Largely the same lethargic play after a bright 10-15 minutes with the goal being the only exception and what a great goal it was.

These weren’t great when we played them at home, they’re not going to be any better with 7 first teamers out. We don’t need Rodri in the middle, Gundogan who has been very good so far can do that role better solo, get Rodri off and either push Foden centrally and get Torres on the pitch or give Doyle/Palmer the second half.

Little side issue, I hate how Sterling appoints himself set piece taker when he finds himself with the captains armband. His effort wasn’t terrible but He’s one of the poorest strikers of the ball around, he shouldn’t be anywhere near set pieces.

Spent plenty of that game out wide with De Bruyne false 9 if I remember rightly
