Matches postponed by the police etc....

Just gone and put out the bins (I'm the optimist) and nearly ended on me arse. Icicles have thawed, dripped onto the drive and frozen - skating rink.

And just look at those adverts - LawyersAndCrooks4Us, BJScrewTheSystem, all waiting for some careless sod not to look where they're going, slip onto their silly heads, phone them, settle out of court 'cos it's always cheaper, and then we find at next renewal our premiums are jacked up to pay for it. (Frozen morning rant put to bed!)

you obviously didn't go to Middlesbrough. It was a horrendous day the last 2 k was walked in a blizzard on icy slippy ground I fell 3 times and although not hurt it was not fit to watch.,Had same walk back to train

People whinge at the Police/Council when they Aren't doing their jobs properly, and from the topic creator are whinging when they ARE doing their jobs properly.

Respect to the club/police/council for thinking ahead and putting fans safety paramount.

Although I enjoyed say the Stoke game I didn't enjoy the fact that I had to literally J-Walk on main roads with heavy bus/hgv vehicles steaming past... I am used to this having cycled quite frequently but everyone isn't a healthy 24yr old male and the people who whinge about the game being called off will probably be the first people to whinge when they see kids and old ladies smashing their hips and suing.

What are chances of Blackburn game being cancelled on Monday. I'm bringing my 8 year old nephew over from Northern Ireland and don't fancy two days freezing to death without seeing a match. Can't wait to see his face, first time at anything this big I just hope it ensures him becoming a propper blue.

How do they get away with it, Pitch playable but streets icy etc so match off...this never happened in my youth. There were 100,000 in the Trafford Centre one day during the sales, the pavements and carparks were an accident waiting to happen but did they close the TC? did they fuck! Have they closed all the shops in Manchester city centre ....No, then why do they deem fit to cancel a football match? I dont get it at all.

Its the same with schools, my school never closed because it was cold, we sat in class in our feckin coats ffs!

moan over!

Liverpool V Spurs called off when they aren't even playing until Sunday. That is a nonsense. That means the next match will have to be called off and the next and the next, if the long term weather forecasts are to be believed. The Prem will be running into the World Cup with fixture congestion at that rate.

People have gone soft, as long as the stadium and car parks are okay then the rest should have sod all to do with the police or council, if people are scared of slipping on ice then dont leave the house, its snowed people will fall over its life

i went arse over tit today at someones work and they tried to get me to fill in a accident report, why? its slippy i fell no ones fault, carry on

On the news there was two schools within 1/2 mile. One shut , one open. When they asked the headmaster of the shut school, he said something like:
"someone slips in my school, guess who gets sued?"
World's gone mad.

If a kid fell on the ice, banged his head and an ambulance couldn't get up the drive to the school, the parent would be on to 'No win no fee' before you could say dinner bell.

I think it will be on if there's no more major snowfalls as everyone is used to the snow now.

If workers can get to work safely, then we can get to the game. Some will be stuck at home as they can't get out, but that's no reason to postpone a game. If people are at risk then yes, I understand it's fair to call it off, but I've been walking 2 miles a day every day across Manchester and not had any problem. Maybe drivers will have to plan ahead, and think about car parks etc

I mostly agree with you about the health and safety aspect, don't like ice, then don't walk on it unless its an emergency.

However allowing 1000's of people to clog up icy (and potentially snow covered) roads just to watch a football match is a bit stupid. It is only a sporting event, its not life or death important (even against the rags), so I can see the reason behind sport being cancelled. This cold spell has already given us 100's of people stuck overnight in their cars, on a few occasions, not because the snow was deep, but because the roads were clogged, and one jack knifed lorry blocks a motorway. I've already endured a 5 hour, 12 mile journey, that ended in failure, so needless (and a sporting event meets this criteria) journeys should be avoided, therefore allowing important (and in some cases emergency) journeys to be completed.

Surely it is up to the parent to decide if it is safe for their child to go to school, if they think it is unsafe keep them at home, i was brought up in the 70's and 80's and dont remeber too many icy playground dead children outbreaks
