Really you think the police want to go about arresting people for the fun of it.

I take it you weren't attending football matches in the 70s and 80s, it happened all the time - especially in the West Midlands.

You've been going to matches longer than me but one example of this I remember more vividly than most is Coventry away in 1991 - a 3-1 defeat - when they lifted dozens from the terracing that day for no apparent reason.

I always got the impression that West Midlands coppers had a "quota" to nick at each match, I couldn't think of any other rational explanation. The one that sticks in my mind was at West Brom in the early 80s, a lad on the away terrace spotted his dad in the seats and waved to him, next minute a copper hauled him out!

I am guessing they would have given him a warning and taken his details. But let that imagination keep running away with you.

Though at least the 17 year old has learned his lesson if he is shouting homophobic remarks there is a chance there is in hatred within him and could escalate into being a racist. So let us take the postives from it. City and the police managed to throw out a Racist Homophobic fan well done to them.

I say ban the c**t.

yes the Police do that...i know police..family members..utter c**ts

what they are taught and what you are told is poles apart

getting a "result" is all they want for shits and giggles back in the police canteen

they are wankers

Last season there were 21 arrests for homophobic and indecent chanting. This was across every premier league game played. 21. Suggests the police aren't looking to nick anyone at all. I wasn't in that area and I don't know what went on but it doesn't sound quite right. Young lad having a bit of banter accounts for 5% of all arrests for indecent chanting at all games. City had 71 people arrested last year. 38 games, 71 arrests but plod are busy fitting people up and getting a result? As I said, I wasn't at this arrest but those numbers don't suggest a police force desparately out to arrest anyone.

don't forget these arrests are probably concentrated on two sections 110/111 so disregard the other sections of the ground and the percentage rises, my lad got nicked a few years back at the spurs game and this is exactly what happened, we were stood in 111 where it is a standing section, just before the game ended three coppers came and cuffed him and took him to the station where he was detained for six hours, the charge was racism with cause to distress , the result was he was put on bail, then out of the blue a few days later a letter from city arrived announcing his ban and his season ticket suspended depending on the outcome, a month later a letter from GMP saying no further action, at the police interview they told my lad they had witnesses and sound and video evidence and in his best interest it was to admit the offence and sign papers, fortunately he seen straight through this simply because he had not done it 'so how could they have any form of evidence', a further letter from city arrived saying the season ticket had been re activated 'in other words welcome back' however he was that pissed at what he had been accused of he sent his season ticket to Peter Fletcher and basically told him to insert it up his backside, he's not set foot in the place since, a 16 year old kid with another 50 years of watching city infront of him, the club have lost out on quite a bit of ticket money just because some overzealous copper wants the arrest rate at a certain figure to justify the overtime bill

I wonder why they chose this person out of the thousands that use the term every week.

Out of the many homophobic comments you hear at the football I would have thought calling a Chelsea fan rent boy was on the lower end of the scale.

Exactly. If it was aimed at an openly gay footballer, or a group of people marched on the Gay Village to chant "Rent Boys" then that's another more serious matter altogether but pulling someone up for a phrase that thousands of fans use every week (and thousands were using on Sunday) to describe another set of fans (many of whom will be heterosexual males) is nothing short of ridiculous.

As for picking out this particular person, I wouldn't mind betting that he was an easy target for the plod. It's a tactic that they've employed at many matches down the years.

Really you think the police want to go about arresting people for the fun of it. As stated a complaint was made and if the Chelsea fan pointed him out then they are under obligation to speak to him. With a name like yours I'm not having it that your offended, unless of course you've never actually set foot on the kippax eh

Maybe, just maybe the young lad was making an important point about the vagaries of the loan system in the premier league.

The song "Chelsea Rent Boys" could well have been intended to highlight the fact that Chelsea Football Club have a habit of buying lots of young players and they then loan i.e. "Rent" them out to other teams . Obvious when you think about it!!

"Free the Yorkie One"

Somehow this thread has ended up being an attack on the cops, amazing.

The OP has forgotten the basics. It is not about what has happened for the last 20-30 years on the terraces as he puts it, it is about what is happening now.

If you hiss when the spurs team are playing City you are likely to get arrested.
If you throw a banana or chant about monkeys when a black player has the ball you are likely to be arrested.
If you make a homophobic comment when Chelsea are playing etc etc. The police have always had the power (and have often used it) to arrest people for swearing at a match. When I was 16 I was ejected from the Kippax for giving the V sign. It was an offence then (Sect. 5 Public Order act) it is
now.

Instead of attacking the cops the lad should think himself lucky they treated him leniently.

I actually found Sheffield to be the worst in the 80s would stop the coach a good few miles out drag you all off. Then inevitably keep a half a dozen by the side of the road and fuck the rest back off on the coach. Then when they didn't get a reaction would leave you stood there miles from the ground where you either hitched it in or wait for the coach to pick you up on the way back. Usually with fewer people on it.

Anyway back to this homophobic racist 17 year old lets just draw a line under it and ban the ****.
