Matheus Nunes

Nunes is the one player that was going to be obviously sold given Wolves FFP issues, they need strengthening and will take £60m or less to add a few bodies in before end of window. Else they’re in a relegation battle. Seemed even more obvious we’d move for him when the search for midfielders began, not many names you can look towards in terms of box to box/goal scoring midfielders from within league, no surprise he was the name after Paqueta. I reckon given Bernardo’s situation more or less an exit next summer (should the clause rumour be true and active then) him and Eze both are targets

60m bid might just do it for me.

Eze is more fun to watch and he's probably got the more interesting skill set... But for what this team needs, Nunes is the better solution for me.

Plays in central midfield, can play in the 6 and 8 positions and will take the load off Rodri.

Eze can only really play in an advanced midfield position or on the wings. He won't ever be able to play in a double pivot alongside Rodri or alongside Kovacic, Nunes can do that with ease.

I think our main priority is keeping Rodri happy and making sure he gets plenty of rest.

We have Foden now playing in the pockets and I'd like to see him continue there. We also have Bernardo that can play in this position and the likes of Bobb and McAtee that can play there too.

I'd rather not stunt some of the younger players growth too. It seems like Bobb might stay so I'd love to see him get the odd games here and there without stunting his development.

Agree 100%

OK, I love the detail you've gone into and fair doos you make a smidgeon of sense but if you spend a minute watching Eze then you know why he won't work at City. He's a head down beat a player and whack a ball across to an empty 6 yard box. Kind of guy. That's his game and has been for a while. Unless he's capable of changing everything he's learnt over the last 10 years and do as he's told in a rigid do what your told or else formation then he's not for us.
Honestly, I find it absolutely mental that there are still city fans who think that any one of our players or potential players have one role and that's it. We are a different breed. Nobody has set positions. Nobody.

Haaland?

Exactly. We already have the following that I would describe as elite players -

Ederson
Stones
Dias
Gvardiol
Rodri
Bernardo
KDB
Phil
Alvarez
Grealish
Haaland
Kovacic

That’s arguably 12 elite players.

Doku may well become one, and if we buy Eze and Nunes they may well become them under Pep. Even if not then not everyone in the squad has to be elite
Make that 13,Walker

We seem dead set on signing a midfielder from the pramier league, only a year after they signed for their team without pulling up trees but having their price double regardless. Probably target Boubacar Kamara when this falls through.
£45m doubled is £50m?

Grealish plays in a front 3, big difference to a player that sits in from of the CBs

Where would we be without Rodri's goals? Like I said, it's everyone's job.

Not to mention Matheus Nunes' job isn't to sit in front of the centre backs. He starts deep and carries the ball up the pitch.

I'm not against this by any means. Like I said, he's a really good player. I just hope him, Kovacic and Doku all up their numbers.

I remember Pep describing Nunes as one of the best players in the world when he played for Sporting Lisbon. He has obviously had his eye on him for a long time.

Think we wanted him 2 seasons ago but other priorities came up . He will be good if we get him.

I bet you were one of those who moaned and whinged like fuck that Ake was shit before we signed him as he too came from an unfashionable club.
Pep transformed him, as he does with most players, so I wonder what your take on Ake now is ?
FFS if we are to sign him then give him, Pep and Txiki a reasonable amount of time to show what he can do in a more than half decent team.
I posted on here I thought Ake would be an exceptional signing. Only signing in recent times I’ve hated all along is Phillips- look how that turned out.
