I started laughin

Don't blame you, it's a fucking joke . Vinny is more of a liability, he knows he's good and IMO takes chances. Comes unstuck at times. Then lescott tidies it up.
Lol

Lescott or Nastasic to partner Vinny? Its not a bad problem to have, and I can say I feel perfectly comfortable an hour before a game when either name is read out from the teamsheet.

Lescott is a very good defender but is very limited on the ball in a similar way Dunne was.

Nastasic is very good on the ball and while he has shown he can defend well, he is young and is still learning his trade position wise. Also could probably benefit from a bit more strengthening which will come in time.

Lescott isnt bad enough on the ball to give me any worries of him playing, nor Nastasic's lack of experience.

Who would I pick?

Nastasic

It's fascinating how the "Nastasic is good on the ball" thing grows in strength. It is true that he is more comfortable than Lescott so the comparison is fair but let's not get carried away that he is a playmaker or anything like that.

From what I have seen he doesn't actually make any special passes whether long or short and he does give the ball away quite a bit when attempting anything beyond the short pass to Barry/Yaya etc.Am I missing some class passes he has made?

The job of both is to defend well and ,when in possession give the ball to the nearest City player who creates the play.I think Nasti has had a brilliant intro to the premiership and deserves his place in the team but let's not get carried away.

I was a big supporter of jolean but let's not forget it was his mistake In the game against qpr that allowed cisse to to score the opener ..that Cuda cost us the title

So could vinny allowing their winger to skin past him to cross for their second goal. Lescott was outstanding all season and people pick out this.
In all players cases we win as a team we lose as a team.

Even tho Vinny got beat for the second...I can live with another player trying his max to beat kompany on the wing cuz it's the other player making it happen..but I can't live with a self inflicted stupid (title losing barring the miracle)mistake by heading the ball behind to nobody but cisse with open grass in a title clinching game..that to me is unacceptable I commend his performance last year for us to win..but if I'm choosing between him and nastasic stupid mistakes like that def play a factor in choosing between the two..nastisic all day

what about kompany ducking vs madrid?

mistakes happen, lescott gives 110% every match and to discredit a blue for one mistake is disguting

Plus I could have played against Stoke yesterday and we'd have still kept a clean sheet. They got a nose bleed at the half way line.

Lescott cleared several balls from our 6 yard box which Nasty simply wouldn't have positioned himself to do, as we saw v Norwich.

Lescott defends. Nastasic plays next to somebody who defends and cleans up the bits that drop to him.

Lescott is a whole class above Nastasic as a defender, & while Nastasic may one day become a class act at Premier League level, he would still need someone with Lescott's kind of abilities playing next to him, as it's unlikely he will ever have that kind of presence, especially against teams like Stoke.

Currently the comparison is between a promising kid v one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Imo, it is no comparison. Lescott is better v all opposition and proved it last season.

Clearly Roberto Mancini does not agree with your assessment. Lescott has more experience than Nasty and arguably greater positional acumen as a result, but in terms of technique, pace, comfort in possession, not flapping under pressure etc etc, Nasty is already streets ahead.

But in terms of tackling, heading and positional sense, I would say Lescott was ahead; all three of which are very important. As is the fact that Vincent Kompany seems much happier when Lescott is at the side of him because he doesn't get pulled out of position so often.

Nastasic is more composed and a better user of the football, but I think Lescott is a much better defender - at the moment.

I'm struggling to think of a time when I've hailed a great tackle or a great defensive header from Nastasic. I can recall him costing chances through being out of position defensively though.

This isn't a bag Nasty post, it's just emphasising my belief that, at this moment in time, I think Lescott is the better defender.
