Matthijs de Ligt

Probably due to me looking at this situation as a romantic supporter, but I find it disappointing that such a young player should be chasing the money with a potentially long and successful career ahead of him. Kind of sticks in my throat , that if like De Jong he is a Barca fan, with the chance to go there, why he is allowing himself to be led by a greedy agent .

And as you allude to personality, it doesn't sit well with me. He will be fabulously wealthy anyway , so why the greed element ?

Yeah, I'd understand if the issue was the playing time he'd get or something like that, but if he did turn them down because of money it's just crazy.
I of course think Juve would be a good environment for him, but it's a weird decision if he turned down his dream club just because of money.

Personally I find it mad that such a young player would turn Barcelona down due to money. Spectacular city, great football club and the chance to play with Messi and his best mate has signed for them.

I don’t at all. Some people are just motivated by money that’s just life. If someone comes to you and offers to treble your salary if you are motivated by money then you definitely consider it.

You should always move to the company/club which will develop your knowledge and experience, the money will generally follow. If not then you have the skills to make the next step in your career anyway.

If you grow up with a passion for something & work to be the best you can be, then as a youngster, you surely have even more passion to be at the 'right' place, soon as possible IF you think you will be able to perform there.

DeLigt would certainly play, if he signed for Barca. More certainly than he would if he signed for us.
They play, the way he plays.

So everything would be 'right' for him, except extra money.

It's really surprised me, on the odd occasion I heard or read about him speaking until the end of last season he, and De Jong, seemed pretty level headed and spoke about the Cruyff legacy and Cruyffs club. So expected , like De Jong he'd put football first. Then again by choosing Riaola to represent him maybe that says something about him too.

Boyhood club City offer 120 a week all in. Barca offer 280 a week. Would probably be the most challenging decision of my life.

The time to judge the success of your career is at the end of it but very few agents seem to take a long term view. Fortunately, some players do and that's why it is so refreshing to listen to the interviews with Angelino and Rodrigo who clearly seem to be taking that perspective.

And that will be one of the reasons we signed them, its not just about ability.

would or could we be any more attractive to a young talented kid Playing in the best league ( im biased) and one of if not THE best Coach in world football Having just done attaining a domestic clean sweep with some world class talent of our own. Are we always destined to be behind Barca and Real Madrid when it comes to the very cream of young talent

Well, people oppose de Jong being a Barça fan and de Ligt transfer saga but the former was very very close to sign for PSG. He said it himself.
It needed a last minute personal travel from the president of Barça with reassurance of playing time and increased financial offer for him to change his mind at the last time. And don't forget Barça had to agree to take the son of his agent as a player for Barça B. From Dutch fans, the latter is not even fit to be a player for academy of low profile Eredivisie sides.
For all account, de Ligt has acted exactly the same way his friend de Jong had before. The way they dragged their transfer is similar. The only difference is Barça didn't get all in yet. If they don't, he will do as de Jong would have done and will sign for the best offer in term of salary and playing time which is Juventus at the moment.
