But it does dumb down the media. If we removed the idle gossip, people would hopefully read something a bit more worthy of their time, say world events or things to broaden the mind.

From what i have read of your post Aphex, i would have thought you would have been all for opening peoples eyes to new idea, instead of some of the tripe that is written.

I'm not saying you can't have a bit of a perv on some tasty bit of stuff, but why must the majority of some NEWSpapers be jammed with crap.

i don't want to go down the same road as everyone else and say 'it sells' as that is blatantly obvious. the real issue with news and the media is that is has always been this way.

the phenomenon of celebrity and the way it is reported owes its very existence to the way propaganda has been used to devastating effect over the years. it's a slighty different form of reporting, obviously. but it uses the same route. people end up with a whole load of fabricated ideals and don't know what to believe. but the interest remains regardless.
