Mayday or M'Aidez

Sorry to be pedantic:

It's derived from venez m'aider (not m'aidez), which means come help me in French and the call is "mayday, mayday, mayday". It's important to repeat mayday 3 times so that other people on the radio (any channel) know that you are not talking about 1st may and there is absolutely no confusion.

Remember this, it could save your life, even if you don't know the rest of the procedure someone will pick up that someone is trying to get a distress call out and guide you through the rest of the procedure to give them the relevant information.
