What powers would the Mayor of Manchester have?

It'd have to be an existing Politican as opposed to a local celebrity. Gerald Kaufman was my MP when I lived in Manchester. He was quite established in the Anti Fox Hunting ban.

I would, however, vote for Terry Christian.

So who would you want if we have have the chance to ELECT a mayor? Im not talking about a self styled mayor/spokesman like the cretinous Pat Karney....a proper mayor.


Would be John Amaechi for me. Intelligent bloke, as well as a pro athlete added to that he is part of two minority groups that are prevelant in the city. Also seems like a decent caring man.

Could you possibly share your boundless wisdom with us lesser mortals,and enlighten us as to why exactly you consider a hard working councillor for one of Manchesters most deprived areas,(Harpurhey),to be 'cretinous'?

His stance on smoking, his self styled spokesmen stance in Manchester grates. You are quite right he is ELECTED in Harpurhey-NOT Manchester city centre....I also suspect he was responsible for making the mets run slow and be horribly over crowded during the referendum on congestion charge (anyone who regularly gets the met knows what went on back then).

I hate the man.

Before I met Terrance I would have slated you for this, however he's a thoroughly decent chap and his son was/is at our academy. He's a great sponsor for Manchester and unlike his peers has stayed here despite becoming wealthy and successful.

Obviously if he was still with us Mr Anthony Wilson would be the natural choice. RIP.
