Thanks to everyone for their support on this thread. Peter, a teacher who runs the admin side of the club in Ghana and represents MCFC supporters in Ghana, has been through a terrible 24 hours and when he finally gets to the internet to read these messages he will be pleased to see them and pass them on to the players.
The MCFC Babies were playing in a pre-season tournament in Bolgatonga, which is about 150km north of their local community home just outside Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana. The Under 14s made it to the semi-finals but were knocked out on penalties. The Under 17s though made it to the final and won 1-0 on the final day.
A truck lost balance and crashed into their bus about 2/3 of the way home near a place called Diari. 6 players and the driver were rushed to hospital. 3 players were severely injured and required blood. While the rest of the team went home shaken up, all 6 injured were kept in overnight at Savelugu hospital just outside Tamale. The 3 not so severely injured players were discharged today and I'm waiting to hear on the 3 severely injured players and if they have been discharged. However, I do know that the 3 severely injured players can all walk and talk today, which is a huge relief.
Our only concern presently is for the well-being of the players, but there will obviously be a review of this incident when the time is right and Peter and the club have had a chance to recover.
In the meantime, thanks all for great support. The MCFC Babies in Ghana have been going from strength to strength having finished in the top four in U12s, U14s, and U17s, last season in the highly competitive Ghanaian FA Youth League in the Northern Region of Ghana.
