MCFC Hyde Rd Stadium

I've researched lots on Hyde Rd and try to sneak stuff in to everything I write on it. It's not easy but I try. I've even included stuff on ticket prices and the types who attended the ground here http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14660970.2014.961378?src=recsys#.VjR1PUqQGrU

On the other points... The King did visit (George IV) but only once. A guy once published 'evidence' showing King Edward visiting in 1900 but it was incorrect. There was a typo in a 1930s book which said the king visited in 1900 when it should've been 1920, then the guy printed an image of Joshua Parlby at the ground escorting AJ Balfour's daughter to her seat, saying that was conclusive proof that the King was there. He thought Josh was the King - he was wrong, but never accepted the real evidence, so occasionally people do, incorrectly, believe there were 2 king visits to Hyde Rd.

Having said that.... The Queen's dad did visit Maine Rd for a game when he was still Duke of York; Prince Philip attended a Derby in the 60s at Maine Rd; the Queen opened the current stadium (her and Philip also attended the Commonwealth Games) and, although I didn't notice, I'd guess that either Wiliam or Harry attended the Rugby World Cup game at Etihad.

A proud record.

Gary - was Prince Philip's visit for the Duke of Edinburgh Cup (which I think was a pre season game??)

Also, don't forget both Queen and Prince played at Maine Road ;)

It was George V not George IV Gary! Hyde Road wasn't around in the earlier George's day.

The match Prince Philip attended was a Variety Club fundraiser & I think it absolutely pissed down that night if my memory serves me correctly. Oddly enough, it did the same at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, which I assume he was at as well.

Edit: Just found this:

Of course it was George V, sorry! My typing is not what it ought to be. Yes, it did rain heavily for the D of E game. There's good film of it in the tfilm show talks I gave at the CornerHouse in last couple of years. Shows him being introduced to Neil Young et al. Cheers

Quite a few of the Pattreioux footballers cards featuring City players were photographed at Hyde Road.

Mad Eyed Screamer:If you can get any of Gary James books on the history of City then there are pics in there.
In the 80's / 90's the site was GM Buses skid testing patch!

Think you're right, Could see the drivers being trained on the Skidpan. Thought at first we played at Belle Vue where I noticed some Metal gates with MCFC on them often wondering why City didn't incorporate them into the then new Maine Road ground. Told later Manchester Central F.C. played there.
