born and raised in eccles and have to say it is red. in my year at high school (st.pats) there was me and another blue in the entire year and he wasn't arsed. he turned out a good blue though.
funny story from eccles though, i used to get the shit kicked out of me by 5th year lads at st.pat's when i was 1st year because i was a blue/gobby little get.
when they came back with the '91 ecwc, i knew a few of the older lads were going for a drink at the white horse on eccles old road. i slipped my city home top on and covered it with a tracky top. turned up over the road from the boozer a bit before the rag bus came. there were my older tormentors acting cool with pints of lager and cigs. i started shouting over at one of them who used to give me real good hidings. he spotted me and tried to laugh it off in front of his mates. i undid the tracky and unveiled the sky blue and shouted "millsy, you lanky red bastard." most of the rags were laughing as i was just a mouthy 12 year old blue but "millsy" lost all decorum whilst chasing me about half a mile up eccles old road. jesus wept, i paid for that the next time he got hold of me on the school bus!!

I must know you. I went to St Pats and was 15 in '91.
I left St pats in 1984! when I was there it was 60-40 red-blue! They really are glory hunters!

I left in 1992 and I was the only match going Blue in my year and I'd say the overall school split was 90% - 10%. Every day had it's moments.

was you in liam conner from corrie's year?? are you indeed rob himself??
i myself resided in ellesmere park.

-- Tue Mar 16, 2010 9:05 pm --

m27 and salford paul, i presume you are both aware of the legend that is mr.guckian?? he left just before i started. that's my luck. just too young for all the great eras. stone roses, happy mondays, mr.guckian................

Rob was the year below. I went to Gilberts with him as well. Funny story, he once played a game for Gilly's with a balaclava on and his NHS glasses over the top because he had an ear infection. To be fair, I was captain so it reflected badly on me as well.

Poor Guckian, he had a terrible time.

When in the 70s mate ? I played against Light Oaks and Hope for Marlborough Road and North Salford - you might have given me a kicking or you got the runaround from me ;P

Late 70s for MCFC13 he was shite at football though.

Mid 70s for me ,St thomas and St Andrews and i was a child star lol

I think you mean't to type mid 60's there Bigmal!

Played in net 1st game at Light Oaks, got stuffed 6 -0 so did the decent thing and moved to Left wing. At hope played centre mid, no pace but enjoyed getting stuck in, the muddier the pitch the better, slowed everyone down to my pace!

I went to Lower kersal we used to beat Marlborough rd, st james, light oaks. We then went to Cromwell and used to beat Hope high, st lawrences, clarendon, sacred heart, ordsall oh we was a good team lol, one of our player has a son in city's youth structure know. But to be honest most of Salford are rags, there are small pockits of us blues amonst them.

You're having a laugh aren't you. Went to Brentnall in the 70's and North Salford and regularly used to turn over Lwr kersal and then irwell valley when you moved on. The only games we got were from St Andrews (local derby), Clarendon, Ordsall and occasionally St Pats. The rest were pants. And don't get me started on cricket!!!

Did anyone on here go to Hope High ? I left in 85 !!! Now that makes me feel old

Yes. Left in 89. There are a couple of other ex-Hope Blues who posted earlier on this thread.

I went to Hope High but left in 2000

-- Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:00 am --

love bein CITY in Salford

This 100% I cant wait to go in my local on Sunday (with all the unfortunate tossers who just couldnt quite get a ticket for the swamp) and sarcastically cheer for the Scum against the dippers. It will finally show the rag bastards that we dont give a fuck if they win loose or draw, all we care about now is where we finish in the league, and if it means the scum beating the Liverpool to help our cause them I for one am all for it!

Most of my family live in Eccles and they're all blues.
Get them to join the Eccles branch of the OSC ....numbers growing fast....lots from Salford!!!

I second this, join the Eccles Branch, they are a friendly bunch (even if I did get teased over missing the second half of the Chelsea game!)

About 10 of us at Sunderland on Sunday which was great for the banter.

The amount of City kits in cars, People showing their colours in general, is very pleasing in Salford at the moment......................It is defintely about 80/20 reds though
