It's about a year now since Steve Kay's son Ash wrote this:

"I’ve been involved with the site from the start, but nowhere near the level of commitment as him, and will be continuing it in his memory. I’m hoping to completely overhaul the site to get it to a level my dad would be proud of (and a level I’ve been telling him I’d get to for years!). I don’t think this can be done on my own - I can provide all design/and user experience development (that’s my day job) but know of a project that’s being developed by a few like minded statto’s to build the ultimate stats site, so I’ll be in touch with them to see if we can make this a community project… for the fans, by the fans… and secure my dad’s legacy."

When you think of the fantastic achievement of Steve, John Maddocks and many others including Gary James, I do hope that Ash's hopes to update the records will come to pass.

Anyone ever heard of this 'project' referred to?

Over the years I helped Steve a little with his site and I have to say the work involved with pulling together the stats from the various books, records, programmes etc. is not a small task. Steve did an excellent job pulling it all together. In the last few years we've lost several key City statisticians - most notably Steve, John Maddocks and Dennis Chapman (perhaps the most indepth). Ray Goble, who compiled the stats for the initial Complete Record, no longer focuses on City.

As Gary has said , I to would be interested to know about this project

Many Many years ago Gary(hope you remember this) and I had a brief discussion about getting like minded people together, to see if we could develop this, it never materialised mainly because of Garys projects and as previously mentioned the sad departures of John, Dennis and Steve. Rays health is also not the best and he now likes to concentrate on the stuff he does for the West Indian cricket board

I do remember. I've also talked about forming heritage/historical societies in the past but, as with the stats sites, they take dedication from several people otherwise they fail.

I've sent an e-mail to Ashley telling him about the thread and Gary's question.

Hi Gary/Londonbluez/johnnycrossan...

The projects i'd seen were very much in their infancy...
http://code.google.com/p/mcfc-statistics-database/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_City_F.C._season_1907–08
stats used we're from mcfcstats.com

I spoke to a few people before summer about working on an open project that could be edited by a community and managed by moderators, which with all the other commitments we all had kind of fizzled out...

As you say, it's a big job to maintain and definitely needs dedication from several people...

I'm still very keen to keep things going, I'll admit that I'm not even close to being the statistician that dad was, but can offer the web skills to get it working on-line.

If you or anyone you know would like to help manage and maintain the detail and quality of the stats, I think I can pull together web people to make it happen.

I'd love nothing more than to see it resurrected. :)
