McLeish sacked

The way Villas going expect a cheap option - not a job for anyone with potential due to no funding anymore, Couldnt see Martinez going after turning down last year. After trying a ex blues manager was a disaster ruling out certain relegation with Steve Bruce and Mick Mccarthy wouldnt go down well for sure, I expect a bag of balls,oh for the days when we had such termoil, never again

Fans were never going to warm to him being ex Brum manager.

It was like Hughes with City, George Graham for Spurs and Steve Bruce being a geordie in mackmem land.

Villa fans loved Lerner when he took over from Deadly Douglas, not so sure what they're thinking these days

Awful Manager. Big decision this for Villa, they do have some talented young players so all is not lost. A decent appointment here will put them back in the "Second Tier" mix with the Merseyside Clubs.

The only reason I can think of for appointing him, was because of Birmingham's success in the Carling Cup last season. The probably looked at this, and his record in the Scottish Cups and saw his appointment as a chance to bring in silverware, even if it meant sacrificing league position somewhat.

You thought you felt good yesterday? McLeish got sacked.

Gotta be up there with how you guys felt!

Congrats on being champions, over 38 games the league doesn't lie.

-- Tue May 15, 2012 10:21 am --

To be fair, it wasn't as much to do with the Birmingham connection as the media made out.

It's the fact we knew it had disaster all over it & the football has been the worst I've ever seen down Villa Park.

Lerner undone a lot of his hard (good) work when appointing McLeish.

He'll have restored some faith from the fans by acting quickly.

This next appointment is a big one.

Martinez or Lambert please.

This ohhh he was an ex-Brum manager, thats why the fans didn't take to him(like Hughes with us)is bullshit. He(like Hughes)simply isn't very good and the media have this snobbery about them wanting to paint fans as being mindless. Villa have always been a team that tried to play football and McLeish(in England anyway)has been a manager that simply wanted to stop the other side from playing, lets not forget that the last two seasons we have played Birmingham they have produced the worst game of football in each of those years(the 0-0 away in 09/10 and the 0-0 home in 10/11)he is basically a poor manager thats been found out.
As for Aston Villa, its worrying times, historically Southampton is one of those places alot of teams don't fancy(a little like Norwich)and with Reading already up and if West Ham join them you might well find for the 2nd year in a row none of the teams that come up will go down. The only thing that saved them was the points they picked up before the turn of the year and if they take that form into next season they could quickly find themselves with much work to do!

For me a lot of Villa's experienced players have not been bothered at all for the last couple of seasons, that combined with their young players being championship standard at best made it difficult for McLeish. But he is a very poor manager and even the games he managed to win looked like it was by accident. Saw it summed up perfectly earlier his ideal season is 38 0-0 draws.
