Mcr > Blackpool cycle ride today

Might do this next year, what would be a suitable bike? I don't want one of those road ones though as I wouldn't use it...

My dad did it in just under 5 hours.

He probably would have done it in just over 4 hours had he not stopped to phone an ambulance for someone who had fallen and hurt themselves.

Fair play to him. I saw a guy being put in an ambulance and another have an awful fall downhill right into trees. He was OK though, sore legs and back but no breaks.

I did 3 hrs 40m min in and 4hrs 40 out but got lost in Leyland as I didn't follow the same route!

Bring on the M100.

How do, new to to forum so hello :-), a mate told me to register.

I did this on Sunday saw a few blues along the way.

Thought id post a quick pic at the start in my Umbro Diamonds shirt. I really like the diamond range. I did it on my 1976 Raleigh Grifter Mark 1 in a nice shade of blue. Sure theyll be people on here whom remember them. Took me 4 hours 45 minutes. Did 72 miles in all as I rode back to my home town of Fleetwood from the finish in Blackpool.

Hope you like the pic! Cheers, Col.

Great pic mate!

Same thing here in a way, had a roadie many moons ago but I couldn’t get used to it, only had it for about a month. If you’re doing plenty of miles on the road, a roadie’s a must though! Although you could have the comfort of a MTB with the thinnest tyres you can find for your 26’s. That's what i done on the Blackpool run, but i reckon with a roadie, I’d easily snuff out 30 minutes than my MTB’s time – not all about the speed mind! But if you go for thin tyres, Fitton, look into SCHWALBE Marathon Plus Tyres mate, they’re proper heavy, but they’ll save you a lot of pissing about with punctures, I was out training with normal Michelin slicks, puncture after puncture, 2 in half an hour!!! ‘kin nightmare. The Boss bike will be fine, but try and save a few quid from it and put the cash in the tyres.

Lol no way, you beat me by 4 minutes, good on ya mate. real good time heading back! Indeed the M100!! Is there many hills on that one?

Hiya mate! Quality bike! Top picture.

Brilliant time considering there's only one gear, good stuff!

Sorry I don't know how to multi post? lol

Its about your budget and what the bikes gonna be used for, obviously the more you spend the better the bike, I myself am looking for a new MTB in the £1000 - £1300 bracket, Specialized and Boardman's are flicking my switches at the moment but then again I ride my MTB's anywhere over anything, the GT bikes in Halfords are a sturdy and common piece of kit for the money.

@turnupthemoon pretty much the same profile as Blackpool in terms of hills. One big one at 95 miles but it's not too long. some in Delamere too but they tend to be a downhill first so you get a run at them. Not nearly as many do this ride so you should do a better time as less congestion.

@walterkurtz. Great pic. I like the diamond range too. Will get one for CS. Welcome.

Big G: Don’t know much about the Boardman MTB’s? Reckon I’d opt for the Specialized for some reason though!? I’d love one of those Boardman racers they’re got adverted on the tour de France, but I’ve got around 4 ton to play with, thinking of a second hand Specialized Allez Sport 2010, dunno yet?

Manchester Blue: Cheers matey, had a funny feeling it’ll be similar. Yeah I'll look forward to that.

Fitton: 25 quid more, but I’d take a punt on one of these.

Gutted before, went for a 40 mile spin early this morning only for the back wheel wobbling around 15 miles in (just glad she made it to the finish at Blackpool), reckon its the bearings? sad sight @ 6mph through the pissin rain...:/
