Hopefully somebody can help.

We have a Peugeot 3008 2018 (diesel) reg and the AdBlue light has come on recently with an error saying:

“Emissions fault: starting impossible in X miles” which is counting down in 50s. Currently at 400 miles.

Suffice to say, I’ve put AdBlue in it and it’s full, have also tried clearing the light at a garage but it stayed on. Just taken it on a run around the M60 ring road too (35 minutes total) in fourth gear to try and blast any shit out in the exhaust but still no joy.

Any ideas? Any mechanics specialise in AdBlue/emissions etc?

Cheers

Common Causes for P20EE on Peugeot 3008:
  • Clogged AdBlue Injector: Crystallized AdBlue builds up on the injector, restricting flow.
  • Faulty NOx Sensor: Incorrect readings can trigger the code.
  • AdBlue Pump/Pressure Issues: Low pressure prevents proper dosing.
  • Damaged DPF: A clogged or failed Diesel Particulate Filter can allow soot to damage the catalyst.
Potential Fixes and Solutions:
  • Clean/Replace AdBlue Injector: Removing and cleaning the injector is a common first step.
  • Software Update: Dealers often perform software updates for the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to manage AdBlue more effectively.
  • AdBlue Tank Replacement: In some cases, the entire AdBlue tank/pump assembly requires replacement.
  • Reset Fault Code: Using a professional scanner, the code can be cleared, but it may return if the underlying issue isn't fixed.

I’ve seen some say it won’t actually matter when that countdown hits zero but I’ve also had relatives whose car just stopped when their AdBlue has ran out. But then there is AdBlue in the car itself.

Baffling.

In my last job we had a fleet of Citroen Berlingos

9 in total. All the same age 2018/19.

4 of them developed a similar fault in a short space of time to what you are describing. Mine - i just kept topping up and ignoring it. 2 of the others refused to start one day even though they were full of Adblu.

When diagnosed at a garage, The pressure in the AdBlu tank wasn't enough to Inject the AdBlu fluid into the exhaust system. Wether it was the pump or the circuitry I don't know.

Anyway the whole AdBlu tanks were replaced. The lease company tried to blame us, saying when the non start in 750 miles (or whatever it was) message came up, we let the Adblu fluid run too low (less than 100 miles non start message) and it had caused the Adblu fluid in the tank to crystalise.

The Director told them to get fucked and luckily they backed down and replaced the tanks via warranty.

Hope you get sorted mate.

Cheapest and easiest thing to do is Adblu injector £20 and 40 mins don’t let it get to zero as can prove costly

My last merc did this. Started the countdown of doom, was quite worrying. Low mileage, full merc service history but a year out of warranty. Took it to a merc specialist but only an official dealer can sort it.
Cost me 2k, they had to fit new sensors or something.
Sold it straight after and I'll never buy another.
Hope you get it sorted.
A car should never do this, it's a con. There's nothing wrong with it mechanically, it's just emissions bollocks.

Just looking into this now. Have you had MOT or DPF issues after remapping?
Seriously, try the cleaner first and give it a blast. Remapping could fail the MOT if noticed and possibly invalidate insurance. A diesel carbon cleaning company tried to push me there.

Nothing to lose at less than £15 and my light has not come on in 2000 miles since I used it.

I've had a few cars mapped.
Mostly with good results.
One thing that was common was they all burnt cleaner post map. The standard maps are bad, lazy even, designed to comply.
A good engine map gets it running more efficiently, produces more power, and can actually improve mpg.
It's not a cure for a poorly engine though.
No mot issues with any of mine. I even mapped a warranted merc once, and when I took it in to have some work done, they didn't know it had been mapped, or at least they didn't spot it.

Mot stations aren't looking for, and have no facilities to check for engine mapping. It's not an mot failure if your engine is mapped. All they check is emissions.
The insurance is a valid point, but again, it's hard to detect a map, and most insurers wouldn't bother to do so.

No problems at all. The auto-start feature now doesn't work but it still does the same mpg and feels exactly the same.

Basically, what crublue1 said.

Cheers, sorry for butting in!

Ignorant question I know. My car doesn’t have somewhere to put a key and relies solely on Stop/Start for the engine to start - is that an issue when remapping? Booked in today to remap.

Can't see that being an issue mate
