Makes me laugh how Human Rights has become an issue for football fans. I have had genuine conversations with fans about the results etc and they bring up human rights, wtf!

Because their football teams are way behind City on the pitch and their owners either piss money away on Lukaku and Pogba or financially cripple the club by building a stadium that opens months and months behind when its supposed to open whilst investing zero in their team. Quoting what your clubs net spend or what their owners have or havent done in human rights abuses is a new trophy and comfort blanket for them to cling to.

I dont think any rag cared anything about construction workers up until about 2 years ago when they realised that by their club underestimating the steam train that is Manchester City which has trodden their club into the ground and left their owners scratching their heads wondering what to do about it.

Engage them, ask them what they suggest should be done, you'll normally get a response like 'well for starters they should be banned from owning a football club', then ask them what that would solve, watch them become lost for words. Faux outrage for point scoring purposes, reprehensible.

It's much simpler with rags " fans " .......................just ask them to name 5 of their players .

Our owner bailed out Barclays Bank with a multi billion dollar cash injection a few years ago. At the time the FA or FL was I think sponsored by Barclays.
I don't recall any media or football organisation objection to that funding of sponsorship.
Didn't they also lend to money to Real a couple of years back (unless I am mixing my drinks?)?

Don't remember that being an enormous issue..........

My fav question for utd fans at the moment is "when was the last time you won the title?"
Surprising how many(plastics) dont know, and have to really think back ...i normally end up telling them the answer .

I ask then if they think that Utd will ever win the title again. Always makes me smile as their little red faces contort with anger and confusion.

Abso-fucking-lutely. The level of outrage is linked to how well City are doing. If we were languishing in mid-table or worse then none of these fuckers would even be throwing the human rights thing at us. It's so obvious. You only have to look at our previous owner who had a far worse reputation than our current one when it came to alleged human rights abuses. Sure, there were a few noises made about Shinawatra when he first bought the club but it soon became tomorrow's chip paper because we didn't seriously threaten the top 4 cartel, save for those first few months where we hovered around the CL places.

I see the press are taking the big bad UAE have jailed a British subject who must be innocent because his wife says he is and dont they know he is British and clever therefore he cannot possibly be guilty and its up to Pep and Man City to speak out on behalf of this travesty. I wish I could be a journalist who know all the ins and outs of an affair without any knowledge or information and set myself up as an arbiter of justice as I see it

Where is the call for the Glazers and Kronke to speak out about all the travesties of justice happening in America under Trump and others. What about all the calls for British owners to condemn the unlawful treatment of UK citizens in Guantanamo Bay by the British Government. What about the calls for Abramovic to condemn the crimes perpertrated by his close friend Putin. Why is no-one condemning the sponsorship deals with the UAE and Russia for United and Arsenal and how they are "sportwashing" (my least favourite word ever) for these so called corrupt states.

I dont hear a word its just yet again bad City who play with the bad boys whilst everyone else do their shady secret deals with agents in the full glare of silence and journalists complicity

Its the only rod left they have to beat us with and they will get tired of that before too long

I find the crocodile tears over human rights abuses in the UAE by rags bizarre, they couldnt give a rats arse about construction workers conditions. They only care about their sad existence in needing to belong by supporting a successful football team miles away from where they live has been disrupted, it wasnt written on the brochure back in 1992.

Ok so his trial lasted 5 minutes which seems a tad quick. Mind you it lasted a damn sight longer than Abdel Hakim Belhaj's trial. Ok his rendition from India to Libya lasted several hours so I think that made up for it, oh and the fact that he was then illegally held in soliatry confinement whilst they tortured him kind of makes what the UAE are doing look like a tea party. You see thats the difference, In the UK when we know we can find someone guilty we have a trial that lasts several days, when we think they will be found not guilty we dont bother having one, we just kidnap them.

This whole 5 minute trial bit is or could be somewhat misleading. What's being referred to there as I understand it is a hearing to hand down a verdict; that should simply be the end result of proper deliberations / examination of the evidence.

I haven't spent long on this story but I doubt that he is a British spy. In fact, I bloody well hope he is not an agent of our government because I'd really hope they could covertly surveil the places in question. It does though sound conceivable he has done things that he really shouldn't have in a place that it is a stupid idea to do such things. Frankly, there's lots of countries that will not take kindly to you, for instance, checking out their military facilities without permission: now more than ever that at best looks like a suspicious activity.

As for this having anything to do with MCFC, it's not something that should legitimately be linked to the club.

Looks like they’re working on an amicable and diplomatic release.

So the UAE are showing far more tolerance than the UK do with suspected espionage.

I assume that will make headlines.

I do not believe this 5 minute thing either, I wrote in as a reply to Exeter. Why do English people hold up our justice system as something better than every other country and escpecially a 'dirty arab country'. Ask John Warboys if he thinks we have a free and fair judicial system.
I also think you are wrong when you say he you hope he isnt a spy. He is exactly the type of person MI6 would recruit to spy for them, Plane spotters in Greece and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe are 2 others. I am sick of the good old British/ English people saying we would never spy on others, 'thats what foreigners do.' What a load of bollocks. The british press are the gutter press and people should wake up and learn to think for themselves.

Who gives a shit about what’s going on in the UAE, I don’t care, let them carry on spouting shit, it will be something else next week

All I care about is Manchester City and the football we play and the trophy’s we win, let them keep spouting it and laugh at the desperation

"The City Football Group (CFG) is a holding company that administers association football clubs under the ownership of Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG).[2] It is part-owned by Chinese firms China Media Capital and CITIC Capital.[3] Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG), مجموعة أبوظبي الاتحاد للتنمية والاستثمار,' is a United Arab Emirates (UAE) based private equity company owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan"

This is the bullshit argument made by rags and other bitters and media ignoramuses like Simon Jordan. It's simply not true. City are owned by ADUG which is a private equity company owned by Sheikh Mansour with Chinese minority partners. City are not owned by a country and don't have access to a sovereign wealth fund which would be used to fund a state owned club. Sheikh Mansour is a member of the ruling family and has a government position (deputy prime minister) but he's one of 20 siblings fathered by the previous ruler Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan so where's the surprise in the fact that he has enormous personal wealth and a whole raft of investments many of which are much bigger than City?

Imagine the narrative if the UK security forces detained an Arab after discovering he was collecting information about UK national security. His feet wouldn't touch the ground. Until maybe when he's been extraordinarily renditioned to a third country.
