I think he has got us a bit. The problem is he has come from two European giants in Barcelona and Bayern with worldwide followings. They are long established at the top table so will probably sell out most big games. While it may be disappointing for him to see empty spaces he should understand why that might be the case.
Bayern have had huge problems with empty seats, to the point that they're now seizing season tickets that miss more than a few games.
Barcelona have an average attendance of 62,500 in a stadium that holds 99,300.

I have been surprised to see lots of empty seats at Barcelona but Spain is having a hard time jobs wise I guess.

I suspect (or perhaps I'm just hoping) that Savage was laughing because they'd discussed what the theme was going to be and he'd already stated how it would go with maybe some facts for them beforehand.
Or, the caller is someone Savage has been speaking to for many many years, and is known to be completely off her tits and generally rants at people. Just a suggestion.

It's nothing to do with that, Barcelona/Catalonia is the wealthiest part of Spain. They simply built a stadium with the aim that it would only sell out for the very biggest games and they were right to do so. If your stadium is selling out every game, it's far too small.

Yes i don't think pep does us any favours with comments like that
I don’t think he understands what our fanbase is about. Maybe never will. Just doesn’t (and why would he?) get involved at our level.

The club as a whole - despite all the surveys - just don’t get the fanbase. So there’s no relaying of info to Pep.

I think the board and Pep have only ever known Barça Bayern Madrid United. Whenever they played Espanyol they were probably in-and-out of their stadium when they went there and never have them a second thought all season. The thing is our fanbase is closer to Espanyol’s, than Barça Bayern Madrid and United.

I so want us to win the prem more than ever this season, so we can rip in to twats like Aldridge and Carragher, and give them hell.

I just did a quick search on the unemployment rate in Spain. Madrid was just over 13% and Barcelona just over 12%. So probably a bit higher than the bad old days in the UK when the UB40 song one in ten was out.

I wonder how many tines they sell out then?

Atleti, Real, Valencia, Sevilla, possibly Espanyol, the biggest CL games.

It's an utterly preposterous argument that you should only extend a stadium if you can fill it every game. It's akin to only extending a restaurant if you can fill it on a Monday night, rather than at a weekend.

I feel like pep views us as just another job,i've always thought that,it's not necessarily a bad thing,i think a club means everything to the fans of any club,i think bobby and his link with the fans won't happen again

That's true but Barcelona virtually never sell out, sometimes playing to an almost half-full stadium (admittedly a huge one). Like a lot of Spanish clubs they also have a small away following. I have watched City at Barca three times and the atmosphere was underwhelming. Nothing like Seville for example. Bayern fans are also quiet. They are nowhere near as passionate as the fans at Schalke, Hamburg, and Dortmund.
What concerned me most about Pep's comment was that he had been so poorly briefed by his Comms people. He doesn't have time to read all the fans forums but his Comms team are paid to do this and keep him in the loop. I thought he should have been prepared to answer that question. Virtually all the tickets unsold for the semi were between £80 and £120. They were never going to be sold at those prices. He should have defended the fans.

On this subject I think Robbie Savage is being genuine and does understand the fans point of view. I've seen him arguing many of the points mentioned on here from quite a while back. I think it was about the Wales football team and pricing saying something along the lines that by pricing the fans out you lose the fans who once they stop going it's then difficult to get them back but you also don't get the fans to replace them because you are making it too expensive so you won't get new people through the gates. I know he's a marmite figure but I do believe him on this. I give him credit for phoning Ena and apologising as well while Kirsty is still retweeting anyone who agrees with her.

Totally agree. I sometimes cringe when I watch some press conferences and I think our press people need a complete overhaul. Raheem was grilled over and over yesterday about racism until it was uncomfortable viewing. He is a footballer for fucks sake but was hardly asked a football question.

Raheem has handled the racism issue brilliantly. But I think he has been advised separately by his own people. He was proactive in standing up to the false narrative about him in the tabloids but I have a gut feeling the club left him to fight his own battle. As a club we rarely seem to be proactive in defending ourselves and are much less on the front foot than when Garry Cook was there. I know he made a few blunders but he understood us fans. We need to hit back at some of the hate-filled bile we have received.

He certainly has and he has shown remarkably courage and maturity. The one thing I noticed is how he said he hadn't experienced a lot of racism until he moved to Liverpool as a youth team player. He said this twice and I am surprised the dippers didn't jump on it.

Again I agree we don't have a strong front man these days, we could do with one.

Always an excellent read from this Blue but I've noticed he used the same clip which was posted on this forum after the game which conveniently cuts short Ena describing City fans as an absolute disgrace for leaving early against Cardiff last week.

It is disingenuous and smacks of censorship and as much as Ena got praise for voicing her opinion then her full opinion should be heard.

Lazy BBC bastards.

Weve lost 2 all English ties in Europe and the dippers k ocked us out in the semi finals.

Advocating violence ok too is it?
No, but if you are going to actively goad fans on a national radio station, broadcast to millions, then the least you can expect is some abuse back from some unhinged individuals. If I were to walk in a pub outside Old Trafford and started singing Munich songs, would you blame me or the person that twated me?
