Usual scouse propaganda, pandering to the dribbling masses of Merseyside, Chester and Oslo.

Absolute bollocks van Dijk gets anywhere near the Balon D'Or. How can a player, a defender no less, who won ONE trophy be considered over anyone from a team scoring over 150 goals and winning ALL THREE of their domestic trophies?

If van Dijk played for us, these fucking chimps in the media would be giving it to Ronaldo again
As others have said, bang on the money with the last sentence..

If Bernardo Silva isn't considered for this recognition it will be an injustice. Last season he combined high technical capability with prodigious work rate and an exemplary commitment to the team ethic that Pep has created amongst the squad. I've seen some amazing players perform in our team these past 60 years but never seen anyone make such a telling contribution in all areas of the pitch like Bernardo did last year. Even at the death of the game with us 4-1 up against Brighton and the title won, he still had the energy and commitment to block a Brighton counter by turning up at left-back and snuffing the move out.

I don't want to put a hex on him but if Bernardo continues at the rate of progress he's shown over the past year and he stays injury free in his career with us, he could well surpass David Silva and Yaya Toure as the greatest City player I've ever seen.. and it was some leap for me eventually to accept those two ahead of Colin Bell!

I like Van Dijk as a player and think he has great qualities but (as others have said here) he benefits week in week out from The Anfield Road Formation Brick Throwers posting two (and on occasion three) holding midfielders in front of their back four. Swap Laporte and Van Dijk and guess who would be in the running for the Balon d'Or?

If having won the domestic treble in the toughest League in the world whilst achieving such incredibly high levels of personal performance, as well as subsequently winning team and personal honours with his national team at a major tournament, it doesn't end with Bernardo getting any recognition from the press and his fellow professionals, then 'injustice' won't be a strong enough word for it.. but knowing the media and how those who manipulate it work, Bernardo's glorious season will quickly disappear from their collective memory, like 101 points, the domestic treble and so on and so on..

Agree completely.

I was just highlighting that Ogden really has just become a well-credentialed troll, as is the case for a fair few other football “journalists”.

This is the beebs take on it

"The victory was achieved through Guedes, the Valencia winger smashing in from the edge of the area following Bernardo Silva's clever cutback, though Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen will be disappointed he did not keep the effort out.

The game was billed on the clash of the two influential captains - Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Netherlands centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Both players claimed silverware at club level last season, Ronaldo winning the Serie A title with Juventus, while Van Dijk contributed to ending Liverpool's seven year wait for a trophy by triumphing in the Champions League.

Ronaldo, 34, scored a sublime hat-trick in the semi-final victory over Switzerland but was unable to add to his 88 international goals, seeing a thumping, goalbound drive blocked by the towering Van Dijk.

The closest he came to netting was when he skipped past two defenders from the left, but stuck a shot straight at Barcelona's Cillessen. He also smashed a free-kick wide late on.

Former Southampton and Celtic player Van Dijk was his solid, assured self at the back but could do nothing about the winning goal, though Cillessen was unable to keep out Guedes' strike having got a hand on the effort.

Manchester City's Silva, who set up the goal, said: "I am very happy and very proud. It is my first title with Portugal. After the amazing season with my club, to finish this way is amazing. It is time to rest now and prepare for next season and try to do even better."

That is how well they thought Bernardo played, two mentions and one description of "clever" but Ronaldo and Van Dick both claimed silverware last year and Van Dick was towering, solid, assured.

Fucking desperate ****s.
VVD doesn’t even get in to WhoScored’s Nations League Finals Team.

Bernardo is the second highest rated. Though, even taking off the blue-tinted glasses, he really should be the highest, as he basically carried Ronaldo (and Portugal) through.

It’s also interesting that a **** player like Delph makes it in. ;-)

Wow. Who was on their panel? just Garth Crooks? No Liverpool players on that, so I'm sure it will go down well over on Merseyside.

It is based entirely on their running player ratings for the Nations League games, which are supposedly “based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game”, from “over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player’s/team’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game”, with “every event of importance taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.” (Source)

Even if you question how their algorithm interprets the metrics at times, their rating system it is still substantially better than football “analyst” ratings (especially given the Liverpool-bias inherent in most, as you pointed out).

it does say "Finals", so any previous matches are irrelevant to this award presumably. Ronaldo got 3 in the semifinal which is pretty much guaranteed to give him a high rating.
It's four matches, two of which involved mighty Switzerland who the Dutch didn't have the benefit of boosting stats against - that'll add to why Delph is in.

Ahh, yes, in my haste to post this between meetings I missed the Finals bit.

Having watched all of the finals matches, though, I would have to say I still think there is a case to be made for Bernardo being rated higher than Ronaldo, but I think that is actually already represented by the fact that goals are weighted very heavily in any sort of metrics-based player assessment (for good reason) and Bernardo is still only 0.08 points off Ronaldo.

In my (very humble and probably biased) opinion he should win the Ballon d’Or... but they’ll give it to one of Ronaldo, Messi, or VVD.

Np.
It's certainly close, and stats-based stuff is just that. Whoscored is much better than anything used for weekly ratings - the one's the Sun use means a centrehalf could head out fifty crosses, but would get marked down for most being incomplete passes!

Ballon d'Or this year is interesting. I suspect Messi still edges it. It may come down to who starts well next season.

I noticed that none of the press have really been looking at the way that we have been playing over these last 2yrs. I would like these so called football writers, to have a look at what Liverpool have won over these last 2yrs 1 trophy, compared to Man City's 6. I am sure that most of the Liverpool players would give up their right are to have the number of trophies that we have won these last 2yrs.

I am sure Raheem Sterling along with all his City team mates, will no doubt pleased with winning back to back Premier League trophies, and Carabao cups, along with this years FA Cup, and Community Shield. To be come the 1st ever to hold all the domestic trophies in the same season. This surely beats winning just the Champions League. Yet the press still did not give us the credit that we deserve, no Liverpool top that.

I said to my sister that you can get through to the finial by winning just 4 of your group games and drawing the other 2. I explained it this way, win 4 group game s+ 2 draws you will top the group. Then draw all you remaining games for e.g. 1-1 at home then a 2-2 away and you go through on the away goals rule. This applies to your last 16 games the 1/4 finals and the semi-finals. So you end up in the final by drawing more games then you have won. This way you can be come Champions league winners.

Incredible bias, no surprise of course, from SSN.....

Segment about City and Scum being after Maguire - ok fine with that.

We then get a graphic whilst the woman highlights what we’ve spent on defenders since Pep came in, emphasis on “a then world record fee” for Ederson, and then “a staggering £280mil total”

Next breath then move on to Scum are also interested in Wan Bissaka.

Seriously, lmao.

Was just watching it myself thinking the same thing.

What the funk has it to do with anything?

No tallying up of the utd backline? It'd be at least 200m I bet.

Pathetic from sky sports but it's the norm now.

All it was was just an opportunity to reinforce the mantra that we buy success and have a nice sly dig. Nothing more, nothing less. Fucking pathetic.

Exactly this, and you know what to expect . If your expecting objective assessments about City, Sky is not the place you will find them.

Edersons fee was paid in Euros so I'm not sure how it could be a record fee. He cost 35m EUR whereas Buffon cost in excess of 50m

People need to wake up to the fact that sky sports news is NOT A NEWS ORGANISATION, or even an impartial observer. Proper news reporting went out of the window with the rise of Murdoch. The sound of a truthful voice is almost inaudible over the sensationalistic sound bites that the dumbed down masses now lap up.

SSN is the front to a commercial sports channel whose roots are as deeply embedded into the football status quo as could possibly be. They are the wagging tail on the G14 dog!!

You WILL NOT hear fair judgement or balanced review. They are a slightly upscaled talksport, with prettier mouthpieces.

Being shocked at a skewed report in favour of an established G14 club over City really should not be shocking anyone in City blue anymore. In fact I am more shocked that people are still shocked at their antics.

It's hard being the outsiders as we now are, to be lambasted regularly and unfairly, but that is how it is and it isn't going to change until ADUG buy 51% share of SSN and write their own version of events. The best way of uniting warring factions is to find a common enemy, that is what we are and "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" rules the hearts and minds of the clubs and supporters of these clubs.

There has never been a more sustained and insidious campaign against a first class English football club. The whole media industry is breaking new ground every day on the lengths they will go to in smearing our club. Watching this happen, as a fan, is frustrating and downright annoying, borderline making fans aggressive towards the people who talk down the club. We have come to detest the written and spoken media as a whole.

Get used to it peeps cos only City saving the planet from global warming, an alien invasion and zombie apocalypse is going to change the attitude towards us by the media. And let's be honest, even if we did save the day, they will still say we outspent the opposition on ozone, death rays and pick axe handles to get the victory!!

I don't listen anymore to SSN, which is a shame because they used to be alright, y'know, when things were easier for them to predict and bet on!!!
