Interesting article on BBC Sport, penned by Harvey Downes from Opta, analysing the chances of anyone catching us in 23/24.

Included was this analysis of the age profile of our squad.

Interesting to note that 2 of the 3 oldest (past peak) players have left the club, with Kyle potentially joining the exodus, reducing the age profile of the squad considerably. The peak players are good for a few years but pre-peak players are frightening for our competitors. When adding Gvardiol to the pre-peak list, the prospects for continued success look pretty good to me.

Goes to show that the emotional ties the supporters have with players aren't shared with the analysists within the club, who base decisions on cold, hard facts. No room for sentiment in modern football.

Refresh & renew, or wilt on the vine.
yes, quite clever points and I agree. But let's also be a bit judicious too - ie. a player may be past their peak but still worth keeping for a year - i.e Kyle

City are now the fastest growing club in world football but SKY have already missed the boat. A very big commercial blunder by them.

City feature more than any other club in advertising for the new FIFA successor by EA Sports including with Haaland in full City home kit on the cover. We’re now the face of English football and the most popular league in the world.

Exactly what the dippers did when they dominated in the '80's.

Don't stand still.

100% agree with you mate.

The "peak" of today is very different to 15 years ago. With modern fitness programmes and nutrition I would argue that Opta's peak of 24-29 should really be 24-31 in this day and age, whilst allowing for the likes of KDB, Gundo and Walker who still seem to be in peak condition at 31+

But what do I know, I peaked in the noughties...

And “peak” age for a goalkeeper is different from an outfield player. And there are even differences for defenders and attacking players of course.

To be honest, I believe KDB has peaked and is now on the decline. He’s still an outstanding player, but we have had the best out of him. I think Pep will seriously manage his game time next season.
