Do you remember Maguire's very sympathetic BBC interview following the arrest in Mykonos?
As it really did have utd's grubby mits all over it and it was a piece of propaganda, under the freedom of information act I made two requests
See below their reply with the requests

Thank you for your request to the BBC of 28th August 2020 seeking the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (‘the Act’):

With regard to an interview with Harry Maguire, conducted by Dan Roan which was broadcast on the BBC One 10 o'clock news on Thursday 27th August 2020
I request two pieces of information
1/ In which country was the interview conducted?
2/ Who paid for Dan Roan's travel, accommodation and sustenance?
I look forward to you furnishing me with the information requested

The information you have requested is excluded from the Act because if held it would be held for the purposes of ‘journalism, art or literature.’ The BBC is therefore not obliged to provide this information to you and will not be doing so on this occasion. Part VI of Schedule 1 to FOIA provides that information held by the BBC and the other public service broadcasters is only covered by the Act if it is held for ‘purposes other than those of journalism, art or literature”. The BBC is not required to supply information held for the purposes of creating the BBC’s output or information that supports and is closely associated with these creative activities1
.

The limited application of the Act to public service broadcasters was to protect freedom of
expression and the rights of the media under Article 10 European Convention on Human Rights
(“ECHR”). The BBC, as a media organisation, is under a duty to impart information and ideas on
all matters of public interest and the importance of this function has been recognised by the
European Court of Human Rights. Maintaining our editorial independence is a crucial factor in
enabling the media to fulfil this function. However, the BBC makes a huge range of information
available about our programmes and content on bbc.co.uk.

That's hilarious. I have answered several FOIs so I understand the process.

If the BBC had paid for it, they would have simply said so.

Did you challenge via the ICO? I would have done.

Pep needs to get a few of Gary Nutter's coaching manuals. We all know how well the Bury Rag Pudding influenced the beautiful game from his scintillating managerial career.
The worst manager in Valencia’s isssstreee, worse than his lurch lookalike brother’s disaster class at Inter Miami. But he wanks highly in wome.

On Final Score he was talking through the table.
“Brighton & Hove Albion’s win over Luton Town takes them top.
Arsenal start with a win as have Palace and Fulham”

Now if you were making the tea and just listening not seeing the screen you would assume that meant Brighton top
Arsenal second
Palace third
Fulham fourth

You would be wrong (as you already know)
1) Brighton
2) MANCHESTER CITY
3) Arsenal
4) Crystal Palace
5) Fulham

But there’s no bias is there? Grrrrrr
So, they just reported on the games played today then?

Meh he should have carried on saying lucky to win the league and FA Cup as well, some of these ex players should engage their brains before spouting shite, having said that I’d not take anything the majority of them say seriously as they’ve for the most part have won absolutely fuck all..
What is amazing is that they seem to have zero awareness of football tactics. Perhaps they were players who had very restricted and inflexible roles on the pitch so they never underestood the bigger picture. They can't see that Pep totally changes everything ever season and at the moment the focus is much more on defence and being pragmatic. That's how we won the Champions League.
They didn't even know the context of Pep's animated conversation with Haaland which was that the team should not take risks when 2-0 up and just minutes to half time and was nothing to do with him "not tracking back" as suggested by Merson the moron.

You need to make it a book about how you’ve suffered and how whatever City do United are better’
Gary, you could write one about City since the takeover. The theme would be whatever United do City are 100% better. You could put SAF on the cover and call it Manchester City ruined my retirement. I wonder if they would publish that.
Might make a few bob. ;-)

No I didn't
I thought that was the end of the process

If unhappy with an FOI response you can email the ICO.

The ICO will basically ask the organisation to reconsider and provide a detailed explanation (within 30 days, I think) of why it should not be provided. They will often recommend the organisation shares the information. Based on my experience, I could see them advising the BBC to simply state whether or not it was paid for by them.

A ballache for the organisation as a review of an FOI takes a few hours to complete and they will likely seek legal advice. Knowing how long it takes to get internal legal advice, that would, at the very least, frustrate them and make them flap.

Based on personal experience, the ICO are a pain in the arse.
